Saturn transits and cycles can be considered cycles of achievement and maturity. When
Saturn forms a hard aspect to a personal point in our chart, we might feel that
everything is slowed downwe encounter delays, frustrations, and pressures. But these
times also challenge us to face reality, thereby opening ourselves up to increased
wisdom and the freedom that comes with living in truth.

Significant decisions are often made during Saturns hard transits to our personal
planets. These transits slow life down (or at least, that is how we perceive it) and force
us to live our lives in the present. Although Saturn transits can make life feel like a
drudgery (these are often times when our lives seem to move at a snails pace and
advancements are hard to see), they also give us the opportunity to gain inner
strength, to become more responsible for what we do and say, and to cut out waste or
excesses in our lives. Basically, what happens is a form of paring or slimming down in
the area of life affected by Saturn. We are getting rid of things in our lives that are not
working for us in the real world, and focusing on improving and strengthening the
things that do serve a useful purpose.

Saturn transits can also be considered times of conservation in whatever area of life
that Saturn is affecting. We generally build up our reserves and conserve our energy
during these periods. Delays and little but irksome problems might be experienced.
Things break down, our needs often go unmet by others, we often feel misunderstood
and even left out, we tend to find others harsh and unsympathetic (although this is
often a perception thing we, in fact, may be lacking a sense of humor), and we often
feel burdened or put upon.

Saturn transits teach us to take responsibility for ourselves. At the outset of a Saturn
transit, we might feel like the world is a cold place. If we are mature, we will at some
point come to the realization that we cannot always pass blame for the problems in our
lives. We need to reach within and pull out our own inner strength to rely on
ourselves.

Depression can be a byproduct of heavy Saturn transits. However, if we focus our

energies into meaningful endeavors without pushing too hard for recognition or support
from others, we can fight the inclination towards a gloom-and-doom attitude. Saturn
reminds us of reality and the need for greater self-discipline. Re-organizing the area of
life represented by the house or personal point that Saturn is hitting can lead to great
rewards. Remember that Saturn transits do not completely flatten us, by all means.
Instead, they slow us down, force us to live in the here and now, keep us from taking
unnecessary risks, and help us to build and structure our lives in ways that will benefit
us later.
It is interesting to consider the transits and themes that ran through our lives before
our Saturn transits. If we were riding high during a high-speed Uranus transit just
before Saturn hit, this period can mark a significant time in our lives when we pay
for the risks we may have taken during that Uranus phase. If weve been experiencing
heavy Neptune transits, then this can be a particularly disillusioning time. If Saturn
transits come shortly after a Jupiter-themed period in our lives, we may feel particularly
hard hit as well. Perhaps the Jupiter period has lead us to overspend or ignore our
basics; and then Saturn moves in to correct that situation and to force us to face our
personal realities. Life is not, in fact, all fun and games. We have to work and saveand
that is what Saturn teaches us. Thus, it is helpful to consider the context of the our
recent and past experiences when considering how Saturn transits might affect us.

We should also look to the position of transiting Saturn by house, the zodiac signs
involved, and the condition of the personal planet/point itself. If the personal
planet/point happens to be our chart ruler (that is, it rules our Ascendant), we may
experience particularly powerful events and circumstances, for example. If our natal
Sun and Moon are in hard aspect to each other, then Saturn transits will be impacting
both personal points at the same time. If transiting Saturn is making a hard aspect with
a stellium of planets, then we will be experiencing a more complex set of circumstances
and attitudes that might have a greater impact than if the personal point alone was
affected.

Saturn teaches us about the value of moderation and caution. Perhaps the best way to
handle hard Saturn transits to personal planets and points is to avoid fighting these
lessons. Accept that, at this time in your life, things may move at a slower speed (even
a snails pace). Saturn wants us to work hard, put our energies into practical, useful,
and meaningful projects, and to live in the here and now. This period in your life is a
time for building a solid foundation. Understand that moderation at this point in your
life is necessary for your spiritual growth and your physical body as well. Avoid blaming
others for where you are at nowdoing this will only lead to feelings of melancholy and
anger. Know that this period in your life, while temporary, is a time for learning about
your personal limits as well as your inner strength. Carry these lessons as you move
beyond this phase, because how you handle your life now will make all the difference
the next time (7 years later) Saturn makes a hard aspect to the same planet or point in
your chart.

I n flu enc es P ract icing what we p reach
While Saturn transited Libra from late 2009 until October 2012, our one-to-one
committed relationships came up for inspection. We took a more serious, critical look at
these relationships, and imbalances were more difficult to tolerate. With Saturn in
Scorpio from October 2012 to December 2014 and then June to September 2015, we
dig more deeply into the dynamics of our relationships.

Saturn demands simplicity, definition, realism, and truth wherever it touches our charts.
Saturn in Jupiters sign, Sagittarius, is contraction versus expansion in motion. Finding
a satisfying balance, lying somewhere between being too lax and too controlled, can
consume a lot of our time and energy. We seek out growth, but Saturn sees to it that
we do so in a disciplined manner. Saturn in Sagittarius asks us to take on the
responsibility of living according to our personal truths and principles, and to be loyal to
these. This is a time for turning a critical eye to those beliefs and principles that dont
accurately reflect our authentic selves.

Saturn invokes a craving for the qualities of whatever sign it inhabits or planet it
touches. In Sagittarius, we crave knowledge, wisdom, and life experience/meaning, but
it will take some time to get there authentically. Saturn seems to slow things down to a
near-stall, and this can be agonizing if we are impatient by nature or if we want instant
results. Saturn takes its time, and this is a good thing. With Saturn, we can only get to
a healthy, balanced place if we take our time doing so, thoroughly.

With Saturn, a desire to gain control is present, and some of us might attempt to
control the people in our lives through the information we share with them, or through
belief systems by imposing our ideas on others, but its a tendency we should try to
avoid. Even if we dont consciously attempt to avoid this kind of behavior,
circumstances will be such that these behaviors are punished in some way, or at the
very least, we will soon realize that there is no reward for them. Eventually and ideally,
we understand that it is only ourselves who we can control.

The more negative expressions of the sign of Sagittarius, such as excessiveness and
irresponsibility, are things that wont work for us now. These become glaring under
Saturns stern eye. In some manner, we are bound to see that there is a big price to
pay for these behaviors, or it will become extremely clear that we have lost time,
energy, and happiness with excessive and irresponsible behavior.

Saturn demands definitions, structures, and commitments. But for many of us, as soon
as something is defined, structured, or committed, we might feel caged, trapped, or
limited. Saturn in Sagittarius can teach us that there is freedom and liberation in
abiding by certain rules, and in some level of self-denial. This is a time for making clear
choices and decisions, for weeding out what isnt working for us, and for letting go of
lost causes.
Sagittarius aims to increase understanding and awareness, and with Saturn here, we
need to do so in a structured, realistic way. The same is true for expanding our horizons
and thinking in new ways Sagittarius can be a little messy in its pursuit of new
knowledge and experiences, and Saturn wants to clean this up. Sagittarius focuses on
the big picture and gains confidence as a result, but Saturn wants us to fill in some of
the details. Positive thinking is wonderful, but if it doesnt have basis in reality, it can
lead us astray or to disappointment, and this is another of Saturns lessons. Saturn
aims to cut out excessive or overdone expectations. Under good conditions and ideally,
Saturn gives us a dose of realism without pessimism, essentially keeping us in line
without dampening our spirits (too much).

Saturn in Sagittarius is looking for practical applications of our personal philosophies.

We may be firming up our belief systems, but should avoid rigid thinking. There can be
a sense that our freedom is curtailed or limited in some manner until we realize that
freedom is not about escaping responsibility its what we can enjoy after tending to
our responsibilities. Saturn in Sagittarius will test our moral sense. If weve become too
moralistic, we may be challenged to walk the talk and practice what we preach.

On a body level and for better health during this transit, it will be important to walk,
circulate, build flexibility, and take care of our legs/veins, hips, and thighs. Disciplined
or solitary sports may fare well now.

Sagittarius is a very outspoken sign, but with Saturn here, we may take more time
with, and before verbalizing, our ideas and opinions. There can be a lot of time taken
on formulating and sharing ideas, as we tend to want to be totally correct. There is a
big difference between asserting ourselves from a place of healthy confidence, and
asserting ourselves brashly and blindly, which can give us a false sense of confidence or
bravery. This Saturn transit discourages the latter as we work on the former.

Issues of discipline and structure in teachings/religion, and freedom of thought will

figure strongly during this transit. This can be a time for updating skills and knowledge
or formalizing learning, getting a degree or other credentials, etc. If weve left that
undone or not done, this can be a time to return to it (possibly while Saturn is
retrograde in Sagittarius). However, we might also question the point or viability of
particular degrees or training. We might take a stricter look at how we share
knowledge, such as through the internet, and see the need for more laws and rules.

Our faith can be tested, and we may be questioning our most basic of assumptions
about life, initially not knowing who or what to trust. Until we adjust to this energy, we
can experience a fear of the future, some dashed hopes, worries of public disapproval
(an especially real concern with social media), and fear of being held back, limited,
restricted, not free, or caged in. Adjustment requires redefinition.

Saturn teaches that freedom is not about escaping our responsibilities nor is it about
breaking all the rules. Saturn shows us that we grow through our failures as much as,
or perhaps more than, our successes. This is a time for letting go of self-defeating
attitudes that have been holding us back, recognizing exactly where we have been
overdoing our expectations, and finding new, perhaps more authentic ways to nurture
faith, hope, and vision. We are seeing where weve been overconfident, sloppy, entitled,
and excessive, and how these things have ultimately contributed to stagnation,
frustration, or letdown.

This transit is about sincerity and authenticity. Its a good time to enlist the help of
mentors, elders, or authorities on matters. With Saturn, quality over quantity applies.
We might want to use this cycle to focus on and develop one special project in order to
help add purposefulness and depth to our lives. Dedication to one or two meaningful
pursuits or undertakings can be significantly more satisfying than spreading ourselves
around. In order to really benefit and learn from this period, we need to accept that
some options may be limited in order to enjoy a simpler, more fulfilling life.

Saturn transits/spans the following degrees in 2015: 28 Scorpio 16 to 11 Sagittarius 09

During its transit of Sagittarius, Saturn forms the following outer planet
transits:

Saturn sequiquadrate Uranus on May 4th, 2015, at 3 Sagittarius 00 AND October

22nd, 2015, at 3 Sagittarius 05 (final) [This aspect first occurred in December 2014
while Saturn was in Scorpio]

Saturn square Neptune on November 26th, 2015, at 7 Sagittarius 02 (first) AND on

June 17, 2016, at 12 Sagittarius 02, AND September 10th, 2016 at 10 Sagittarius 24
(last), with Neptune in Pisces.

Saturn square Jupiter on March 23, 2016, at 16 Sagittarius 24 AND May 26, 2016, at
13 Sagittarius 41 (last) with Jupiter in Virgo [first occurs in the sign of Scorpio on
August 3rd, 2015]

Saturn trine Uranus on December 24, 2016, at 20 Sagittarius 34 (first) AND on May
19, 2017, at 26 Sagittarius 23 AND November 11, 2017, at 25 Sagittarius 38 (last) with
Uranus in Aries.

Saturn square Chiron on December 28, 2016, at 21 Sagittarius 01 (first) AND on

April 30, 2017, at 27 Sagittarius 18, AND on November 2nd, 2017, at 24 Sagittarius 47
(last) with Chiron in Pisces.

Saturn sextile Jupiter on August 27, 2017, at 21 Sagittarius 11 (first/last quick

pass) with Jupiter in Libra.

Saturns square to Neptune is a challenging one. This can come at or close to a time
when Saturn is transiting conjunct the natal Neptune for those born with Neptune in
Sagittarius (1970-1984). Its a time when many of the illusions, dreams, and fantasies
weve been carrying can be questioned, and when our addictions and vulnerabilities can
be exposed. Saturns square to Jupiter reinforces the themes of Saturn in Sagittarius in
a challenging way. Saturns trine to Uranus for most of 2017 is a strengthening one. We
are more likely to be doing what we enjoy, and enjoying what were doing during this
transit.
