Ready for
Harvest By Jessica Howard

Mark your calendars and empty your fruit bowls

because the Bacchus Marsh Harvest Festival is
just around the corner.
The annual festival sees the town come alive
with colour as it celebrates the beginning of the
regions autumn harvest.
This years event will be held on Sunday March
12 and will offer an array of boutique eats, music
and entertainment.
Bacchus Marsh Tourism Association President
and local grower, David Durham said the
autumn harvest saw an influx of pears, apples,
strawberries, pumpkin and tomatoes.
Its usually the time for the harvesting of
grapes, too he said.
The Harvest Festival is held throughout the
Main Street of Bacchus Marsh and along the
Avenue of Honour.
Mr Durham said festival-goers would have the
opportunity to pick their own fruit, purchase
freshly harvested produce and meet local
growers.
Most Bacchus Marsh farmers will also be
parking their tractors along the Avenue of
Honour as a way to welcome people and show
the out of towners something a bit different, he
said.
The Main Street will see local live entertainment
held at the Village Green as well as gourmet
market stalls, arts and crafts, and jumping castles
and amusements.
Mr Durham said local cafes and businesses
would also get in the spirit of harvest, with
menus inspired by local produce.
Other exciting activities will include the annual
gumboot throwing competition and the race for
the best backyard veggie patch.
Mr Durham said last years event saw around
5,000 people in attendance a number he hoped
to see again this year.
The 2017 Bacchus Marsh Harvest Festival will be
held as part of the Labour Day long weekend. For
