CONTAINERS AND BASKETS INSPECTION CHECKLIST

Check that SWL&ID marks are legible and corresponds with the

test certificate.
Check primary load bearing structure for corrosion, mechanical

damage and deformation.
Check secondary structure (floors, walls & roofs) for excessive
3 damage. Check drainage holes and internal cargo tie-down cleats
or rings for damage.
Check doors, frames, seals, hinges and locks for freedom of
4
operation and alignment.
If fitted, check forklift pockets for corrosion, mechanical damage
and excessive deformation. Make sure the pocket size is 200mm x
5 90mm and they are 1050mm apart when measured from centre to
centre of the forklift pocket. The forklift pockets shall have closed
tops.
6 Check markings on the CCU.

Check pad eyes for distortion, mechanical damage or excessive

wear and overload.

Check the slings and shackles with their respective checklist and
8 ensure satifactory remarks. BS EN 13414-1 and BS EN 13889
shall be the standard used for sling and shackles respectively.

NDT (MPI) should be conducted on the pad eyes before and after
9
a proofload test.
Should a load test be required, the load test procedure for CCU
10
(BS EN 12079), should be followed.

A stamped data plate should be attached to units that are OK. The
11
details on the data plate should be according to the procedure.

12 Hand written report should be submitted to operations office.

Certificate of Thorough Examination/Test/MPI should be issued to

the client.
