Show in jeopardy
Bill proposed;
remove recycling program...
The bill to remove the states refund recycling
program has survived funnel week. While five cents
might not seem like a lot, people who live in the small
town of Gowrie said it could jeopardize its firework
show.
For the last 20 years the town has relied on bot-
tles and cans to fund its Fourth of July Show. Its a dirty
job for a group of dedicated volunteers who are mostly
retired that sort the cans and send them to redemption
centers, they say it is worth every nickle, said one Ameri-
can Legion volunteer.
People from all over the state go to watch the
fireworks. Thousands of people travel to Gowrie just for

Fix-Up Your Budget

HGTVs latest hit show, Fixer Upper, has fans and
home buyers looking for new ways to save and restore
old homes. While Chip and Joanna have become experts
in home renovation, theyre not too shabby when it
comes to finances either. Using their home building
skills and our banking knowledge we offer these top
tips to help fix up your budget in 2017:
Build a Strong Foundation
Just as a home cannot stand without a solid base,
neither can your personal finances. To begin building
the foundation to your finances, it is imperative to start
a monthly budget. This system can help you organize
how much money is coming in and out each and every
month, allowing you to allocate funds for both spending

Inner Peace
Many years ago the art world offered a valuable
prize for the best illustration depicting peace. Artists
from all over the world entered the contest. There were
beautiful paintings of sunsets and sunrises. Paintings of
calm seas and tranquil rivers running through lush val-
leys. However, the winning prize painting was very dif-
ferent from those other peaceful scenes. The winning
painting was done in black and gray. It showed the terror
of a violent storm. Lightning splitting the clouds apart
and a relentless rain pounded the earth. In the center of
the painting was a storm-tossed oak tree, with branches
broken off from previous storms. But in this painting
a little bird, hanging on with all its might to one of the
branches, sat singing at the top of its lungs. That was
Gods true peace.
Inner peace is not the absence of storms in our
lives, but inner peace is found only with the presence of
God in our lives. Have you found that inner peace? It
begins with a belief in God.
Prayer: Lord, help us ignore the worlds peace
but look for the peace that can only come from You. In
Jesus Hold Name. Amen

treated much like a high school dual in which we kept
team points but with 16 matches.
The Jags finished 24-56 with Manson battling
for the win. Exhibition matches were also held. The jags
won a total of 14 matches, losing 29. Harley Bryson, Ry-

from shore using stink bait and cut bait. Fishing the rivers
for walleye can also be productive this time of year.
Black Hawk Lake---Black Hawk Lake is ice
free. Bluegill - Good: Anglers are catching good numbers
of bluegill from shore, especially from the stone piers in
Town Bay. Fish are also being picked up along Ice House
Point and near the inlet. Use small tube jigs or hair jigs
tipped with bait fished under a bobber. Most fish are in
the 6.5-7.5 inch range.
Channel Catfish - Fair: After ice out is a good
time to target catfish from shore. Use cut bait and stink
bait. Good areas for catfish include: Ice House Point,
Lakewood Point area, the rockpile north of Cottonwood
Point, and the east shore near the outlet.
Black Crappie - Fair: Anglers have picked up a
