ABSTRACT
Pneumonia in Indonesia still cause of high mortality and morbidity for children under five years
old. Various factors effect on the incidence of pneumonia, which is a factor characteristics,
behavior and environment. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors that influence the
incidence of pneumonia in children under five years old in Noemuke primary health care
Southern Central Timor Regency 2014. The method used in this study was observational analytic
with case control approach and the sampling technique was cluster sampling. The result of this
research found 90 samples that meet researcher criteria which were consisted of 45 children
under five years old with pneumonia and 45 children without pneumonia as comparison, and the
research showed that there were two variables related to the incidence of pneumonia in children
under five years old, those were: 1) house ventilation (p = 0.001, OR 4.054 (CI 95% = 1,678
<OR <9.798)) and 2) humidity (p = 0.003, OR = 3.625 (95% CI = 1.519 <OR <8.652)). In
conclusion there were relations between ventilation and humidity levels with the incidence of
pneumonia in children under five years old. And there were no relation among nutritional status,
low birth weight, history of DPT immunization, vitamin A history, family smoking habits, fuel
for cooking, type of floor and residential density with pneumonia in children under five years
old.
