QUALITY CONTROL DOCUMENTATION

I. QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAM, QCP

The first step in quality control is the preparation
of the plan on program by the contractor. He submits it to
the owner or his representative. The plan should include
provisions on how the work and materials should be
inspected and the nature and amount of testing work to
be done. It should also indicate whether the project
quality control laboratory will be set up to facilitate
testing.
Test to be done:
(Please refer to minimum testing requirements
governing items of work of the DPWH Standards
specifications for Highways, Bridges and Airports)

Inspection:
Continuous quality control inspection on all
items of work shall be done as construction work
progresses. Inspection report to be submitted as required.
A project quality control laboratory will be set up to
facilitate the work.

II. CERTIFICATE OF QUALITY CONTROL ASSURANCE:

(CQCA, WEEKLY REPORT)
Quality control is checking for conformance to
requirements. Assurance is degree of certainty. Quality
Assurance is a function of the owner to verify that the
work is done in accordance with specifications. Some call
it acceptance inspection.

III. MONTHLY MATERIALS REPORT: Per Project

a.) STATUS OF TEST
Determines and updates the test done
within a month. It includes description of works and each
estimated quantities, minimum number of tests required
(on File-test done & balance - remaining test to be done)
and % of work accomplished.
b.) SUMMARY REPORT ON FIELD TEST
Field test done within a month. It includes
Kind of materials, quantity represented, original source of
materials, Kinds of test, Specs item of work, who
sampled and tested, date of sampling and testing, lastly,
the remarks or recommendation.

OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS

Note:
When the liquid limit or plastic limit cannot be
determined, report the plasticity index as NP (Non-plastic)
When the plastic limit is equal to, or greater than, the
liquid limit, report the plasticity index as NP (Non-plastic)
Group Index, GI = F - 35 [0.20 + 0.005 (LL-40)] + 0.01(F -
15) (PI - 10)

Where; F = % passing no. 200

LL = Liquid limit
PI = Plasticity Index (LL-PL)

If GI = 0, indicates a good sub-grade materials

GI = < 20, indicates a very poor subgrade
materials

TESTING OF CONCRETE HOLLOW BLOCKS

Concrete hollow blocks shall be tested for its

Compressive Strength, Absorption and Moisture
Content as well as Measurement of Dimensions.
COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH the stress developed
when external force tends to press or shorten a body.

SIGNIFICANCE: Compression test is performed in

order to determine its strength properties. The test is
important for the evaluation of compressive strength
as a basis of acceptance.
CALCULATIONS:

Maximum Load
Compressive Strength=
GrossCrossSectonal Areaof t h e Unit

The gross cross-sectional area of the unit is the total area

of the section perpendicular to the direction of the load
including the areas within the cells, and the re-entrant
spaces.

Gross Cross-Sectional Area = length x width

ABSORPTION AND MOISTURE CONTENT

SIGNIFICANCE: Absorption and Moisture Content tests are

performed so as to determine the actual percentage of
water and the absorption characteristics of the concrete
when subjected in a saturated condition. The values of
this are necessary in the evaluation relative to its
permissible value of acceptance.
