Savitribai Phule Pune University

Dept. of Sanskrit and Prakrit Languages

National Seminar on Contribution of Pandit S.D. Satawalekar

(21st to 23rd March 2017)

Invitation and Theme of the Seminar

Since ancient times, the world is enriched with numerous streams of knowledge. In
the modern world the Universities symbolize growth of knowledge. Such institutes
are known to be the birth-place of novel ideas and research. In reality, learned
scholars are the back-bones of the famous research-institutes. Some individual
scholars also can be looked upon as academic institutes due to the grandeur of their
work.

In the field of Sanskrit studies and Indian culture, Pandit Shripad Damodar
Satawalekar is such an illustrious academician whose work is an inspiration for all
future generations. He is well-known for his writing on the Vedas. However, it
would be an injustice to his scholarship if one delimits him to the Vedic studies.
He has also contributed to the study of numerous other subjects like Epics, Yoga
and Sryanamaskras. He was also actively engaged in Indian Independence
movement. On the occasion of 150th birth-year of Pt. Satawalekar, it would be apt
to remember him and his scholarly contributions to Sanskrit studies and Indian
culture.
