2017
Once again it is time to ask for nominations for Kaslo
Citizen of the Year for 2017. This award is sponsored
by the Kaslo & Area Chamber of Commerce. It is the
Chambers way of saying Thank you to good neighbours
for making life better for all of us.
In making a nomination, keep in mind a few simple
guidelines:
1. Recognition should have nothing to do with the
nominees occupation.
2. We look for nominees who do good deeds for the
people in the community, whether it is involvement
in community organizations, or helping a
neighbour weed the garden. When evaluating the
nominations, thoughtful consideration is given to
those whose good deeds are not necessarily well
known.
3. Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2017.
These awards have been presented annually, by the
Chamber of Commerce, since 1986. They were presented

Obituary
ROSE MARIE MCLEAN passed away peacefully in her
sleep on Feb. 9, 2017. Rose is survived by her husband
Donald Charles McLean and sons Cameron Bruce McLean
and Malcolm John McLean. Rose Marie spent the latter por-
tion of her life dedicated to genealogy and travel. After many
years working as a health professional and educator, she
was able to spend many years enjoying the benefits of her
hard work in the relaxed environment of the interior of British
Columbia. Frequent travels to Europe allowed her the op-
portunity to live the outdoor and European lifestyle, where
she met many people and shared life experiences that she
cherished. May you forever rest in peace, Rose Marie.

Shane is a 5-year-old grey tabby. He came to the BCSPCA Nelson Branch as
Monday, March 13th 6 p.m.
a stray so we dont know any of his history. Shane is very affectionate and
loves to get face rubs! He is currently in one of our cat communal rooms and
you can usually find him lounging in one of the cat beds. Since being at the

shelter he has gotten along well with other cats but we have not seen him

Takashi Inouye
Sept. 1, 1926 Feb. 27, 2017
Takashi Inouye left us on February 27 to join
his wife and soulmate Ivy. Tak (affectionately
known as Popsie) was born in Kagoshima Japan on
September 1, 1926, one of eight children born to the
late Masakichi and Ei Inouye. When Tak was three
the family immigrated to British Columbia where
they settled on BCs west coast. Tak had many fond
memories of fishing and growing up by the ocean.
During World War II the government relocated
the family to Hastings Park and then to Magrath,
Alberta where they worked in the sugar beet fields.
After the war Tak moved to Glenwood, Alberta
and it was while owning and operating a gas
station there that Tak met his wife Ivy and her four
children. In 1966 they moved to the Nelson area,
where Tak worked at Finning Tractor and Central
Truck. They purchased property and working
together built a home in Longbeach. In 1972 Tak
began working on the MV Balfour and the MV
Anscomb ferries as an oiler, and by 1974 became
a marine engineer. Tak and Ivy loved working
around their home and yard, spending time with
family and friends, fishing, music, and going to the
casino. They were a couple who enjoyed each others
company and always welcomed others into their
lives. After retiring Tak and Ivy spent their winters
in Mesa, Arizona until Ivy became ill. Tak took care
of her until her passing in 2002. Tak and Ivy had
both experienced the Great Depression and knew
what it was like to go without. They valued family,
friends and community and were well known for
their hospitality, kindness and belief in sharing.
A tea to honour and celebrate Taks life is
scheduled for March 18, 2 pm at the Procter Hall.
Tak always believed that helping others was the
right thing to do, so we ask that in lieu of flowers
you do a kind deed. He would like that.
Thank you to Dr. Kirsten and Dr. Janz for the
competent and kind care you provided Tak over the
years. Thank you also to all of the staff at Mountain
Lakes Seniors Community for the compassion
and consideration you showed Tak these last five
months. Taks passing leaves his four sisters, many
family members, extended family and friends to not
just grieve his passing but to rejoice in the honour
of having had this amazing man in our lives.
