CCSS Standards: The ugly Duckling story

- Identify the characters in the story
- Write two sentences using the key words from the story '' Duckling , hunter , farm , hatched and swan '' .

Some students already know some words from the story .
Possible Problems and Misconceptions:
- Some students may forget their color
- Some students may don't understand what the teacher say

- Translate little bit in Arabic .

Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:


The teacher will greet the students first and she will ask them to set in the carpet in front of her . The
teacher will put in board a photo for a duck and she will ask the students '' what can you see in the picture 5 Min
? after they answer the teacher will present the cover of the story and she will say '' today we will take a
story about the ugly duck .

Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures):


The teacher will start read the story for the students and after she finish , she will ask the students to go
back to their tables then she will choose some students to reread the story again but before they read
they have to see the picture of the page that each one will read and explain what's happen in it for
example when one student will start to read the page she have to describe what happen in the picture 35 Min
then read the page . After they all finish , the teacher will write the key words in the board and they will
read it together then the teacher will explain each words by showing a photo that describe it .
After that the teacher will give each group a small paper and two words cards , she will tell them that they
have to write two sentences using these words . After they all finish the teacher will choose two students
from each group to read their sentences .
The teacher will ask the students to come back to the carpet , she will tell them that she will present small
models figures for 10 seconds and students have to see it quickly then the teacher will use a cloth to hide
it . Then students have to say what the characters that they saw and it was in the story that they read ,
they have also to say what was the role of that characters in the story .

The teacher will ask the students '' what do you learn from the story , Do you like the story ? and she will 5 Min
asked them to say their reason for that '' then she will ask them to clean their tables and go back to their
classroom .
