Building Bridges with Immigration Reform in the United
States
Introduction
Today, the issues of undocumented immigrants and the
discrimination of Muslim Americans has been one of the
most controversial issues that America faces. With
President Donald Trumps administration, there are
currently 11.1 undocumented immigrants in fear of
getting deported. This means that millions of families are
going to separated and this cost millions of dollars in the
United States. Muslim Americans also face
discrimination because of President Trump's plan to ban
all Muslims from entering the United States. As
Americans, it is our duty to protect every rights of
Americans despite race, color, religion, ethnicity and
immigration status.
Immigration to the US: Visa
Undocumented immigration is a major topic in the United
States. Some factors that cause undocumented
immigration are push and pull factors. And although
push and pull factors are variables for undocumented
immigration, there are also people who immigrate legally
through visas. Visas are mostly used for family or
employment reasons.
Seeking Sanctuary
Sanctuary cities are cities that provide personal freedom
towards undocumented immigrants. These includes not
being questioned by authorities. Establishment of
sanctuary cities has been proven to increase the
wellbeing of undocumented immigrants and this will
help them be free of the fear of deportation. Sanctuary
schools, on the other hand, helps undocumented
students get in-state tuition from public schools and
universities. This will help them access education more
easier.
Undocumented Students
In the United States, there are a large number of
undocumented immigrants, including a large number of
undocumented students. Undocumented students are
school-aged immigrants who have becomes a part of
our educational system. But because these students are
faced with legal uncertainties, and confined to certain
legal limitations, they seem to shy away from learning
how to navigate themselves towards the higher
education system.
Labor and Economy
Undocumented immigrants have given a huge impact on
the United States economy by being a cheap labor source
for businesses and pay about $11.6 billion in taxes. Being
an unskilled worker has its perks where these
immigrants fill in jobs which reduces some economic
factors such as wages and prices. They are beneficial
and can help the U.S. economy with their financial
contribution and participation in the workforce.
Employment Card
Our economy have been heavily impacted by many
immigrants who are undocumented, with the help of them,
our economy and business industries have greatly
evolved overtime. They are becoming a major key factor in
driving our economy forward. However, an employment
card (which is almost the same as a visa) is needed in
order for them to work legally in the U.S. Its like a key to
open the job door or as you would say employment door
for them.
Muslims and Immigration
MaCarran-Walter Act is a 1952 law that allows the
president the ability to suspend the entry of any class of
aliens. However, the Congress restricted this power in
1965 by passing the Hart-Celler Act which states that no
person could be discriminated against in the issuance of
an immigrant visa because of the persons sex, race,
nationality, place of birth or place of residence.
