Abstract:
The content of this report is the mixture baking soda and acetic acid
NaHCO3 + CH3COOH which the result will be the launcher for rocket
ship.

Objective:
To demonstrate the equation ( NaHCO3 + CH3COOH------> CO2 +
H2O+Na + CH3COO)

Introduction:
The experiment is about the rocket ship which require chemical
substances including baking soda and acetic acid (NaHCO3 +
CH3COOH) as a launcher for rocket ship.

Materials:
1. Large Test tube
2. Vinegar
3. Baking soda
4. Weight
5. mid - size Plastic bottle
6. Toilet paper
7. Lab coat
8. Goggles
9. Lab gloves
10.Plastic board
11.Tape
12.Pvc pipes
13.Small rocks
14.Cork

Method:
1. use 9 pvc pipe to make a base and also for the angle of the rocket
2. use a PVC connector to connect base
3. grab two pipe and put across the base(approximately 45 degree) by using
a hot glue to stick the pipes(30mins)
4. make a wing by cutting a plastic board in a rectangular shape
5. Grab a plastic wing and large tape that we cut and stick it on the sides of
the bottle.
6. use a large tube to measure the amount of vinegar used
7. use a weight to measure the amount of baking soda used

Result:

From the experiment we used

baking soda (11.25g) and acetic acid (140
ml) mixed together and the result show that our
rocket has been launched but not on the target.
We have a hypothesis to prove this result:

1. When we tried to create more gas by use

a cork covered the bottlenose, the gas
was came out from the side of bottlenose.

Test 2 12.07g 140ml 20m 0pt

Test 3 12.42g 140ml 20m 0pt

Discussion:

From the experiment, the number of grams and moles of NaHCO3 that were
used 84.001g/mol and 0.5gram and for the number of grams and moles of
CH3COOH that were used 60.05g/mol and 140 ml. Also we have known that
CO2 (mass of product) was 4.93 g. But however we have found some problem
is that the rocket was not landed accurately because since before we launch we
have focused more about the distance and less focused on the accuracy so when
the rocket is launched it not landed in the circle. Moreover, we whip a cork so
hard which cause a high pressure in the bottle led to inaccuracy. If we have a
chance to do this experiment again, we will focusing on both side the accuracy
and the distance and must be more careful when we set up the rocket.

Calculations:

We selected the best one from the experiment. We have use 140 ml of acetic
acid and 11.25 baking soda. The chemical equation is (NaHCO3 +
CH3COOH------> CO2 + H2O+Na + CH3COO)

NaHCO3 CH3COOH

84.001g/mol 60.05g/mol
0.5g 140ml
0.13mol 0.112mol

Conclusion:

After we mix the chemical substance baking soda and acetic acid (NaHCO3 +
CH3COOH). It has shown that the rocket is launched which can be prove that
the experiment has been successfully even though we made some error.
