A very good morning/afternoon to my fellow teacher and friends.

First and foremost I would like to

thank everyone present here today. My name is Harris Meerza Bin Ahmad Sharul Anuar, and I
would like to talk about a certain topic, Cyberbullying.

So what is cyberbullying? "Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is threatened, harassed,

humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child or teen using the Internet, digital
technologies or mobile phones. What causes cyberbullying you may ask? Things like jealousy,
anger, power, fun and the pleasure of inflicting pain. The negative effects for the victim can be on
psychological terms and academic terms.

The negative effects on psychological could be feeling embarrassed. The victims might avoid
certain people and conceal the fact that the have been bullied on the Internet. They will also tend
to act anxious and be afraid of further bullying and feel traumatised, Other than that, they will lack
confidence and will have difficulty on making emotional or social adjustments. The next negative
effect is depression and will have suicidal thoughts and attempts.

On the other hand, there will also be negative effects on the academic side such as feeling
disinterested in school. The victims will skip going to school and have fear going to school. They
will also become quieter in class and make less contribution for the school. Furthermore, they will
have worsened concentration while effecting their grades.

Here is a real case on cyberbullying. There was a girl named Megan Meier. The students made a
fake account on Myspace with name John. They convinced Megan she was talking to Josh who
`loved` her. Josh then extracted information from Megan that her friends used to humiliate her
online and at school. Megan committed suicide in 2006.

There are several reasons why the Internet can foster cyberbullying. There is no adult supervision,
95% of all teens in the age between 12 and 17 are now online. There is a one in four teens are
mobile phone-internet user that increases the likelihood to be involved in cyberbullying.

Another reason is that teens make often online chat mistakes such as sharing personal
information, flashing more than smile on webcam, engaging in inappropriate conversation with
stranger and failure to report cyberbullies.

With that, there are several ways to prevent cyberbullying. First of all, keep passwords, pictures,
and secrets to yourself, conduct workshops that involve parents, students, and schools and save
cyberbullying evidences.

Parents also play an important role to prevent cyber-bullying, they can create healthy anti-bullying
habits early, teach the child about cyber-bullying and spread the word that bullying should not be a
normal part of childhood. Nevertheless, the school can also play an important role to prevent
cyberbullying. The school can take action for cyber-bullying and deal with it, protect students
personal information and empowering students to be good digital users.

On that note, I would like to end my speech. Thank you again for attending and listening to my
topic.
