1. Once ordered, the Water Filtration Kit requires very little assembly. Start by
stretching the cloth over the thin opening at the top of the container.
2. Once the cloth is in place, slide the 4 PVC pipe into the designated hole.
3. Slide the thin plastic sheet into the PVC pipe to keep the container
waterproof
4. Set the paint can over a fire and everything is in place.
The Filtration Process
Many parts of the world dont have access to clean drinking water and either
use makeshift purification techniques or just drink the dirty water as it is. Neither
one of the two solutions above works well, which is why The Water Filtration Kit
is the best solution. It is cheap and can get the job done well. The first part of the
filtration process is the water collection.
Take the water jug to the cleanest water nearby and submerge it just under
the top of the water. This will collect the water with the least mud and debris
because they are likely near the bottom. Even if the water source was fairly muddy,
the water inside the jug should still be fairly transparent.
The next phase is how to get rid of many of the pathogens that kill up to
4,000 children a day in Africa. The water collected in the jug will be left in the sun
for 6 hours. If there is a lack of sunlight, the filtration will still work fine (sunlight
is optimal). When the jug is left in the sunlight, the UV rays and sunlight kill of the
pathogens and bacteria. Any sediment that managed to make it through the
filtration cloth will have settled to the bottom. Now to burn off the chemicals the
sun couldnt get on its own.
Remove the thin plastic film covering the PVC pipe to allow water to flow
out the middle of the jug into the paint can, leaving the sediment in the bottom of
the jug. The water that leaves the jug will be the water from the top, which will be
the cleanest. Set the water in the paint can over a fire until it begins to boil.
The last step is to add 4oz of salt to the boiling water. This will ensure that
any chemicals left will be taken care of. Then let the water cool in another cup and
the water is ready to drink.
