The MAP CSR Leadership Challenge aims to promote CSR as important and integral
part of good management practice, inspire MAP members and other top executives
to improve their practice and set the bar for the practice of CSR in the country, and
recognize companies that exemplify what it means to be a true corporate citizen
through their CSR programs. To emphasize the strategic value of CSR to a
companys operation, the stories of the winners and participants will be turned into
case studies by the Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School of Business. This
is a good way to perpetuate and learn from their example, while exploring new
models that can work well in the Philippine setting and provide inspiration for the
youth. Leadership, the ability or authority to guide and direct others toward
achievement of a goal, has a significant impact on ethical decision making because
leaders have the power to motivate others and enforce the organizations norms
and policies as well as their own viewpoints. Power is the ability or potential to
influence decisions and control resources. Authority is the formal right to get
people to do things or the formal right to control resources. Obedience to authority
may explain why many business ethics issues are resolved simply by following the
directives of a superior. Leaders need both knowledge and experience to make the
right decision. Managers have a legal obligation to manage companies for the best
interests of the corporation. To determine what is in the best interest of the firm,
directors can consider the effects that a decision may have on not only shareholders
and employees but also other important stakeholders. In the long run, if
stakeholders are not reasonably satisfied with a companys leader, he or she will not
retain a leadership position. A leader must have not only his or her followers
respect but also provide a standard of ethical conduct to them.

MAP CSR leadership challenge awardees named

The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) recently announced the

winners of the second MAP CSR Leadership Challenge.

The MAP CSR Leadership Challenge aims to promote CSR as important and integral
part of good management practice, inspire MAP members and other top executives
to improve their practice and set the bar for the practice of CSR in the country, and
recognize companies that exemplify what it means to be a true corporate citizen
through their CSR programs.

The Integrated CSR Award (the main award) is given to a company that has truly
made CSR part of the way it does business. Its CSR activity is not just a program,
not an accessory or a hobby, but an integral part of the way it formulates its overall
corporate strategy. There were special awards for Education, Enterprise
Development, Environment and Sustainable Development, and Health.
