one of three preferred styles of learning .These three styles are visual, auditory and
kinaesthetic.According to the VAK model, the students learning styles are depend on how they
prefer to receive/perceive information. A Survey was conducted to assess the learning style of
peers of Mount Carmel College. The study revealed that the auditory mode is the most preferred
mode.
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of teaching is to facilitate learning and to encourage the learners to learn
more effectively. The term learning styles describes an individuals preferred method of
gathering, processing, interpreting, organizing and analyzing information. The VAK learning
style model suggests that most people can be divided into one of three preferred styles of
learning. These three styles are visual, auditory and kinesthetic.
Someone with a visual learning style has a preference for seen or observed things,
including pictures, diagrams, demonstrations, charts etc.Someone with an auditory learning style
has a preference for transfer of information through listening; to the spoken word, of self or
others, of sounds and noises. These are the people who are happy being given spoken
instructions over the telephone, and can remember all the awards to songs that they hear.
Someone with a kinesthetic learning style has a preference for physical
experience, touching, feeling, holding, doing. There are the people who like to experiment hands on,
and never look at the instructions first. People commonly have a main preferred learning style,
but this will be part of a blend of all three. People have different learning styles. There is a
relationship between students learning styles and study habits
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
A study on the learning style of peers of Mount Carmel College Kottayam.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To determine the preferred learning styles of peers.
To find out the different learning styles of peers.
METHODOLGY
A survey method was adopted for the study. Study was conducted on 20 B.Ed students of
Mount Carmel College. The VAK questionnaire was used for the study. There were 30 questions
with suitable options. The option A is related to the visual learning style. The option B is related
to the auditory learning style and option C is related to the kinesthetic learning style.
ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION
In the present study, it was found that 25% of peers have visual learning style.
70% of peers preferred auditory learning style.
There was one peer who prefers both visual and auditory learning style.
The auditory mode was the most preferred mode.
CONCLUSION
From the study we found that majority of students exhibited auditory learning style
preference. There were students who interested in kinesthetic learning style. But they preferred
auditory learning style. Many people recognize that each person prefers different learning styles.
Everyone has a mix of learning styles. Some people may find that they have a dominant style of
