CHAPTER 2
Rack Equipment

FLASHWAVE 4570 is placed in Central Offices.

The FLASHWAVE 4570 equipment meets the generic requirements defined in:
ETS 300 119 (framework criteria)
ETS 300 019 (environmental criteria)
The FLASHWAVE 4570 shelf grounding is required when the shelf is mounted to the
standard ETSI rack. Use 12 AWG or larger sized protective grounding cable to ground the
shelf.

2.1 Rack of FLASHWAVE 4570

The equipment frames meet the ETS 300 119-2 requirements. The racks are unshielded.
In order to minimize the rack spacing of the shelves, the outlets of the optical cables are
i at the front of the rack beams. This means that the mounting plane of the rack is moved
to the back.

2.2 Rack Layout

Figure 2-1 shows the mounting of the FLASHWAVE 4570 shelf in the rack.

4.1.3 Interfaces on SI-E Card

Figure 4-3 shows the arrangement of the connectors at the FLASHWAVE 4570 SI-E card.

Figure 4-3 Faceplate Diagram of SI-E Card

Interface Description
T3-1 4 x RJ 45 connectors for four station clock interfaces, T3 stands for clock in (2
T3-2 Mbps or 2 MHz) and T4 stands for clock out (2 Mbps or 2 MHz).
T4-1
T4-2
MDI1-4 2 x RJ 45 connectors to provide 8 Miscellaneous Discrete Input (MDI) ports.
MDI5-8 MDIs are used to read the status of external alarm-points. Both the MDI
description and severities are configurable on the management system.
MDO1-4 2 x RJ 45 connectors to provide 8 Miscellaneous Discrete Output (MDO) ports.
MDO5-8 MDOs are used to drive the external devices. MDO can be activated or
deactivated manually by the management system.
ALM RJ 45 alarm output interface, providing four alarm outputs, including two audio
and two visible alarm outputs.
HCOC-1 2 x RJ 45 connectors for two extended user channels, two V.11 ports in total.
HCOC-2
EOW RJ 45 connector for E1 and E2. There are a maximum of 64 EOW channels
(32 x E1 and 32 x E2). One to one or multiple user calls can be performed
through this interface.
MGT-1 2 x RJ 45 connectors for network management interfaces.
MGT-2
EXT-1 4 x RJ 45 connectors for real extension shelf management. (These ports are
EXT-2 reserved for future use.)
EXT-3
EXT-4
F1-1 2 x RJ 45 connectors for two F1 user channels, two V.11 ports in total.
F1-2
LED TEST LED test button
ACO Alarm cut off button. The alarm outputs connected to the rack-top alarming
module will be cut off by pushing the button one time. System indicators
(critical, major, and minor LEDs) on the NE will not be suppressed.
SUP Alarm suppress button. When the button is pushed, the existing alarms (visible
critical/major/minor LED indicators) on the SI card will not be shown on the
system and the rack-top alarm module when the button is pushed until the next
alarm occurs.
DEBUG Mini USB type port for module debugging.

Electrical Cabling

This chapter gives the electrical cable information used on FLASHWAVE 4570. The pin
assignment of each interface is shown in Subchapter 4.8.

5.1 Power Distribution

i The procedure to install and uninstall DC power connection between the FLASHWAVE
4570 shelf and the fuse panel (or power distribution panel) installed on top of the rack
differs depending on the type of fuse panel (power distribution panel). The following
sections give the procedure exemplifying a certain type of the panel.

Figure 5-1 through Figure 5-3 show the power distribution from the breaker panel to the
terminal area of FLASHWAVE 4570.

CHAPTER 6
Cabling Recommendations

This chapter gives the recommended cabling scheme as an example.

Before handling the optical fiber and
Warning
Put the cables carefully into the cable guiding parts otherwise the cables can be damaged!
!
Warning Do not squeeze fibers while closing the front cover.

6.1 General

The minimum bending radius of the optical cables is 17 mm.

The cable slots directly below the plug-in cards have to be used. Up to 16 optical cables can
be run through one slot, see Figure 6-1.
Cabling assembly order:
1) Lower slots of shelf internal cabling
2) Upper slots of shelf internal cabling

6.4 Ethernet Cabling:

All the Ethernet cable routings should be led toward the upper side of the FLASHWAVE
4570 shelf.

6.5 Intra-Shelf/Rack Fiber Cabling

After connected at the plug-in cards, the optical fibers should be directed sideways toward
the cable outlet of the shelf through the cable slots. In order to avoid the damage, the cables
should be protected by the plastic covers. Slack in the cables must be stored in the fiber tray.
Fiber cable should be handled with care. Read the Safety instructions (SI) manual before
handling the fibers.
Figure 6-5 shows an example of intra-shelf cabling of the optical fibers..
