Reading
This week in reading, first
graders practiced strategies
for reading tricky words in
nonfiction stories. We
practiced checking words we
read to make sure they look
right and make sense. First
graders learned new words as they read and
practiced finding and thinking about keywords.
Math
This week, first graders
worked on solving cross
number puzzles with
missing addends! We also
practiced finding sums of
ten in our puzzles. At the
end of the week we learned
how to solve addition and
subtraction stories.

Writers Workshop
This week, first graders Social Studies
continued writing nonfiction This week, first graders learned about two holidays:
teaching books! We worked on Chinese New Year and Groundhog Day. We studied
teaching in our pictures, being the traditions of Chinese New Year and even looked
brave enough to spell fancy at a Zodiac Calendar! First graders also had fun
words, and adding and learning about Punxsutawney Phil and discovering
subtracting from our story to that he predicted 6 more weeks of winter weather!

Winter Performance

practiced special songs
and poems for our Winter
Fundations Performance! We will
We kicked off Unit 8 this week in Fundations. During share our songs and
