Rhythm sd
Print the plain dice onto colored card stock or print the colored ones on white. Cut and
tape or glue together. Print a rhythm composition sheet for each student.
Review the rhythms with your class for the level you are using.
Ideally, your students would be in a very small group. They will roll the dice of the level
they are using. If a quarter note (ta) lands up, they would write that rhythm into the first
box. They would continue until they have a full rhythm composition. They would then
establish the beat and read the rhythms, then clap the rhythms. Then they would call the
teacher over to see if the rhythm is correct.
In my district, we use the following rhythm names, so the students would use those
names as they read the rhythms. Some districts or schools use different rhythm names.
Just use what works for your situation.
q = ta
sd = ti-ti
w= too
gc = tim-ki
