SEMINAR TALK G&P GEOTECHNICS SDN BHD

Organized by
Universiti Sains Malaysia
American Society of Civil Engineers
Student Chapter
(USM ASCE Student Chapter)

Date : 8th March 2017 (Wednesday)

Time : 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Venue : Bilik Seminar 1, School of Civil Engineering
1.0 INTRODUCTION

This seminar aims to provide better understanding on geotechnical engineering

which utilises the discipline of rock and soil mechanics to investigate subsurface
conditions. Geotechnical engineering evaluations also include a review of the geologic
conditions. The results from investigations are used to design and build foundations,
earth structures and pavement sub-grades.
A speaker from G&P Geotechnics Sdn Bhd is invited to give a talk on
geotechnical engineering for students. G&P Geotechnics Sdn Bhd is an independent
engineering consulting company specialising in Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental
and is providing consultancy services in Malaysia and Asia. The company provides
innovative problem solving, offering safe, cost effective and practical engineering
solutions of the highest standards. The company consists of a group of highly qualified
and experienced Geotechnical Engineers and Engineering Geologists.
This seminar will bring new perspectives and provide an insight into the real
working environment of the industry for students. Students can enhance their knowledge
on geotechnical engineering by learning from the experts. Third and fourth year students
from School of Civil Engineering are encouraged to join this seminar to help them in
understanding geotechnical engineering to its core and applying it in geotechnical design
project.

2.0 OBJECTIVE
2.1 To provide better understanding on geotechnical design for students
2.2 To give opportunities for students to engage and communicate with practicing engineers
2.3 To enhance students knowledge on geotechnical engineering

3.1. To produce competent, creative, and innovative graduates who are able to solve civil
engineering problems within the global, societal and sustainable development
contexts. (PEO 1)

3.2. To produce graduates with good leadership qualities and communication skills who are
able to engage in engineering task both independently and via interdisciplinary team.
(PEO 2)

3.3. To produce graduates who are engaged in continuous pursuit of knowledge through
research, continuing education, and professional development activities. (PEO 4)
4.0 PROGRAMMES OUTCOMES [POS]
4.1. Students are able to apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess
societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities
relevant to professional civil engineering practice. (PO 6)
4.2. Students are able to appraise the impact of professional civil engineering solutions in
societal, environmental contexts and sustainability development. (PO 7)
4.3. Students are able to communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with
the engineering communities and with society at large. (PO 9)
4.4. Students are able to recognise the need for, and have the preparation and ability to
engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest content of technological
change. (PO 11)
