Pre-K Class
Classroom contains 16 students, 9 boys and 7 girls
Classroom contains 2 lead teachers and 2 student teachers
My students learn through child-directed activities that are based on
their interests. These activities are set up for the students to explore
with. Therefore, I chose to teach them a concept that is based on their
interests. I have also incorporated hands on activities.
Classroom contains various special needs, including a student with
hearing aids, various levels of behavior, developmental delays, and
some students who are reading above and below level.

Family/ Community Connection or Extension: The students will be encouraged to act out
stories that they know or made up to their families.

Pre-Assessment:
To assess the students prior knowledge, I will prompt them with a few questions.
o Can you use the puppets to tell me a story?
o Can you try to draw pictures to tell a story?
o What is your favorite character?
o How about you try acting that out on the stage?
Lesson Procedures and Activities:
Introduction:
o I will ask each child what center they want to play in
o I will send them to the center to play
o _____ what center do you want to play in today?
o You can go play there.
Activities:
o Inside table set up: Blank booklets will be set out for students to begin
exploring. They will be encouraged to begin writing stories. The puppet theater
will also be displayed to the front of the room so that the children are drawn to it.
They can begin making up stories with the puppets.
o Outside set up: Rocks will be placed out so that the students can make story
stones. There will be one example story stone placed out. The students will be
encouraged to make their own story stones with any character they want on it.
Dramatic play materials such as costumes, hats, and capes will also be displayed
in the center of the grass so that the children explore with those materials. A stage
will also be made out of the blocks so that they children can perform on it.
o Writing Center: The students will have the opportunity to go to the writing
center. In the center, there will be paper, pencils, pens, markers, and other writing
utensils available for the children. In addition to my unit, there will be performing
arts vocabulary words for the children to explore and discover with.
o Math Center: The students will have the opportunity to go to the math center. In
the center, there will be blocks, wooden blocks, bamboo, tiles, colored shapes
with matching picture, Legos, etc.
o Art Center: The students will have the opportunity to go to the art center. In the
art center, there will be boxes, glue, scissors, paint, pastels, caps, feathers, etc.
o Science Center: The students will have the opportunity to go to the science
center. In the science center, there is a lights and shadows table, scale, etc.
o Dramatic Play: The students will have the opportunity to go to the dramatic play
center. In the dramatic play center, there is a kitchen, stove, pots, pans, cups,
tables, chairs, etc. In addition to my unit, I am going to add some addition
costumes, puppets, and characters (felt board).
o Music Center: The students will have the opportunity to go to the music center.
In the music center, there is many different instruments that the students can
explore with. In addition to my unit, I am going to play music so that the students
can have the opportunity to dance.
o Reading and Listening Center: The students will have the opportunity to go to
the reading and listening center. There are pillows for the students to sit on as they
read their books. For my unit, I have gathered books to fill our library that are all
about performing arts, characters, setting, and plot.
o Blocks Center: The students will have the opportunity to go to the blocks center.
In the block center there are multiple times of blocks that are all different sizes
and shapes. There are also ramps, people, animals, and cars.

Closure:
o Did anyone do something interesting during investigations that they want to
share?
o Go through everything that they children want to share.
o Let them tell the class about it
Differentiation:
Behavior needs: Any students with behavior needs will be
encouraged to engage in the lesson. If they continue to have
issues, I will ask them to leave the carpet and go back to their
desk to lesson from there. One student will be given a pipe
cleaner to help with her behavior, because she needs something
in her hand.
Ability levels: In order to make sure that everyone understands, I
will be going at a pace that is appropriate for everyone in my
class. I will repeat questions and reword questions as needed.
Cultural differences: This lesson meets the needs of all students
in the group. It is relevant to their lives and is developmentally
appropriate.
If someone is having trouble with the concept, I will work with
them during small group. I will also use different teaching
strategies to assist their learning.

Formative Assessment/Evaluation:
o I will take anecdotal notes on each child as they are playing in the
centers. I will record where each child is playing. I will take notes on
the things that they are engaging in.
