PRACTICAL #2

Titration of an Acid using a pH meter.

Objective

Titration of an acid using a pH meter.

Equipment and Material

pH meter.
HCl solution.
NaOH solution.
Beaker.
Graduated Cylinder.
Magnetic Stirrer

Procedure
Weigh accurately 5.85 g (+0.0001 g) of NaOH into a 1000 mL beaker and
prepare 0.1 M Solution of NaOH.
Measure 8.8 ml of 35% HCl Solution and mix in distilled water to make total
1000 ml Solution. It will make 0.1 M HCl Solution
Take 25 ml of HCl Solution in a beaker.
Put magnetic stirrer in it and start stirring at the speed of 5 point.
Then adjust pH meter position in the beaker to measure pH & addition of
NaOH Solution.
Measure pH at start and after every 3 min add 5 ml of NaOH Solution and
measure the pH.
When the pH is near 7 stop adding NaOH and calculate total volume of NaOH
used.

Result
Record the pH meter as per addition of NaOH volume.
Calculate volume of NaOH used to get normal pH.
Calculate Molarity of NaOH Solution from the volume used using following
equation:

Total Volume of NaOH used = ml
