AiR Projects
Our Artist in Residency Projects have begun! We have had such great feedback from the community
and staff about these projects. We cannot wait to see these completed!
Our Concept
The students designed this piece of public art to be a highly interactive representation of the MCHS
Community. It focuses on each individuals goals for the future. All those surveyed will be represented
by a balloon with their dream on it. These dreams will be placed inside of a 7 foot sculpture in the shape
of an octagon. At the bottom of this structure there will be a fan that blows around the dreams of the
community creating an illusion of a snow globe.
Our Progress
This project is in its infant stages. We have our materials and a design with all the
measurements. The wooden frame will begin to be created next week.
Our concept:
The purpose of this project is to inspire positive change in the Middle Creek culture. We wanted to
allow all of our student and MCHS Community to get involved in brainstorming the question, How
can we inspire positive change to Middle Creek High School?
The vision of the project is to recapture the beginnings of change in the concept of an idea. We took the
popular understanding of the lightbulb as a symbol of ideas and expanded upon it. We plan on creating
a large paper mache lightbulb to hang in the foyer of the school. This will be created from chicken wire
covered in a rice paper. We will also survey the different demographics for the school to begin to create
ideas for positive change in the school. These Ideas will be compiled and displayed on large posters
intended to look like post it notes around the central column in the entry way to the school. These ideas
will draw the eye upward through a thin rope that will hang between the lightbulb and the post it notes.
Our Progress:
We have been very successful with our time so far. We developed the structure for the whole lightbulb
this past week. This week we will begin applying the outer level of newspaper. If you are helping out
this week remember to bring clothes that can get messy!
