A life changing event/ an event that changes the life of the

characters/ write about an important and how the event


affected/impacted the life of the characters.
Event: Dawan wins the scholarship and wants to further her
studies in the City.
Impact on Dawan
1. Change of personality from a timid girl to a bold (brave) person.
How:
- Dares not to talk to her father and voice her opinion.
Feels nervous talking to her father. She hesitates and stammers
to even tell him that she has won the scholarship.
Dawan was terrified to face her father when he wants to see her
and Kwai to talk on the scholarship issue.
- The desire to further her studies in the City makes her brave enough
to talk for herself
Speaks up for herself bravely to seek justice from her father
although he is angry.
Challenges her father and ask why she should not be the one to
go to the City.
She talks bravely to the head regarding her wish and she is dare
to ask questions to the monk when he is being unfair to Dawan.

2. She is more determined to achieve her dream and prove herself.


Walks 3 km to Nois house with her mother to find out about
studying in the City.
Noi discourages her that no matter how hard she tries, she cannot
change anything in the village but Dawan is determined to try.
When Kwai argues that she is only a girl who has no leadership
qualities and she cannot bring positive changes to the village,
Dawan does not give up instead she tells him with conviction that
she is capable as she is.
She even goes alone to the temple to see the head monk. She was
hoping to get his support to talk to her father regarding sending her
to the City.
She convinces her father that she too can help the people in their
village and perhaps her country.
Impact on Kwai.
- From a gender biased person turns into a more rational and wise
brother.
How: He lets her sister, Dawan to study in the City.
Determined that his sister should go instead of him. He stands by
her and fights for her right to study in the City. He is even
prepared to forgo his chance and let Takchit, the third best
student go if his father forbids her from going.
Kwai explains that he does not spite his father but his sister
should not give up her chance for him.
He feels it is not his right to grab Dawans chance.
