The 21st century world and globalization have incurred greater demand to the common people in

order to sustain their needs. As the demands are heightened, financial security becomes vital.
Thus, the Graduate School students of the University of the Assumption facilitated a seminar,
entitled SAVINGS: The Speakers Approach at Destino Diner Restaurant, Angeles City,
Pampanga on 25 February 2017.
It aimed to provide a platform and foundation regarding financial management specifically the
importance of savings and investment which could help in nurturing their future financial
wellbeing.
Prior to the conduct of seminar, thorough planning and preparation was done wherein tasks were
disseminated. It was also during this phase wherein the group came up with the decision that the
working students and graduating BS Entrepreneurship students of AMA Computer Learning
Center College of Dau, Mabalacat would be the beneficiary of the groups extension service
program.
On the early morning of the seminar day, we traversed our way to Angeles City.
The program officially started at 9 oclock in the morning for the registration and attendance of
participants. The event was joined by Mr. Arnel Usman Human Resource Management
Professor and 2 faculty members of AMA Computer Learning Center College, Ms. Omelkhayr
Grande and Mr. Arturo A. Lagrimas.
And at exactly 9:30 in the morning, the program was initiated by Jesika Zapanta, the master of
ceremonies, through a prayer followed by the Philippine National Anthem and acknowledgement
of participants. Thereafter, the opening remarks was delivered by Khalid Sunggod, an MPA
student, wherein the objectives of the program were clearly expressed, which set a perfect
platform for the speakers to deliver their presentations well.
The seminar was conducted in three segments with presentations and discussion on:
IMPORTANCE OF SAVINGS, METHODS OF SAVINGS and HOW TO BUILD A FINANCIAL
FUTURE.
The discussion was commenced by Jessica Yapyuco, an MBA student and an experienced bank
employee. She discussed the importance of saving money for future. Also, she shared the process
in engaging in banking services. All these, made the participants realize and understand the
concept of financial independence and building wealth.
It was followed by the second speaker, Agatha Lugue, a MaEd student. She discussed valuable
and practical insights on the Methods of Savings. The methods presented gave the participants
ideas on saving money where they may find saving comfortable. This further paved way to
understand the strategies and concept of Budget and Spending Plan.
And to make the seminar lively, April Rein Dalina, an MPA student and a civil servant,
facilitated an activity entitled Hidden Words wherein participants were asked to search for hidden
words on every pictures flashed on the Powerpoint Presentation.
Another activity was followed, Evangeline Macaspac, an MBA student, led the activity entitled
Newspaper Tower, where participants were instructed to group themselves into two. Each group
has to make a tower with the use of newspaper and the group with the highest tower became the
winner.
At exactly 12 noon, morning activities ended and a sumptuous lunch was prepared.
Subsequently, the activity was resumed through an energizer to keep the participants awake for
the rest of the discussion.
And, the last speaker, Mary Ann Sunga, an MPA student, gave the student some useful insights
on how to begin building a financial future. To sum up her topic, according to her, finding the
correct balance is an initial and important step towards achieving financial security.
After the topics were discussed, the participants were given the opportunity to raise concerns in
relation to their finances.
Thereafter, participants gave their own testimonials regarding the seminar. Most testified that
they were encouraged to invest in banking services and employ other feasible methods to
maximize their finances. Some realized the need to be cautious when it comes to spending,
budgeting and saving.
To conclude the seminar, Mr. Usman delivered his closing remarks; followed by the awarding of
the certificates of participation to the participants.
In conclusion, the conduct of seminar has successfully achieved its objectives in applying the
concepts of training and development; it helped not only the receipts of the seminar but the
Graduate School students as well. Further, the very essence of this extension program which was
to train and impart our expertise was achieved. Furthermore, it proved that students of the
University of the Assumption are living embodiment of the schools graduate attributes: BIASA,
MAGANACA, MAYAP.
