INLAND SURFACE WATER CATEGORIES

The Central Pollution Control Board has classified the inland Surface water into five categories A to E. On the basis of there designated best use and the desired
class. The principal concern has been the end use to which man may put to water. The classification has been made in such a manner that with the degradation
in quality, the water quality requirement becomes progressively lower from A to E. The CPCB classification of the inland surface water is give as under: -
