"Mythbusting Marijuana" Fun Zone Activity

Rationale:
This is a fun zone activity designed to encourage positive values, asset-building, and social competencies in
students. It tests students' knowledge, encourages critical thinking skills, and provides factual information about
marijuana. The ultimate goal of this activity is to have students make informed decisions about marijuana use in
the real world. Furthermore, because students get to spin the wheel to win prizes just for participating, it is a low
risk, fun activity for them.

Differentiated Instruction (DI):


-students may discuss the questions with a partner
-students can spin the wheel to win a prize for participating (even if they did not correctly bust a marijuana myth)
-facilitator can help students read questions if needed

-students may come to the station in a large peer group if so, ask students to partner up and/or wait their turn to
answer questions
-ensure that we have enough prizes for each student to spin for a prize (270 prizes total?)

Lesson Activities:
Activities pacing
Introduction (hook/motivation/lesson overview)
-Possible hooks as students near our activity station:
"Test your knowledge about pot, spin the wheel, and win prizes!" 30
"Come answer trivia questions about marijuana. We've got prizes!" seconds

Body (lesson flow/ management)


-Explain the station:
"For this activity, we're going to have each of you draw a question from this bucket. You have
to decide whether it is true or false. Once you've answered, I'll let you know whether you've
correctly busted your myth or not. Then you get a chance to spin the wheel and win a prize for
participating! Any questions?" 5 to 7
-students pull a slip of paper from a bucket, read the question, and decide whether it is true or minutes
false
-facilitators reveal if the student correctly busted a myth about marijuana, and provide further
information for students (see attached question and answer sheet)
-time permitting, encourage students to answer more than one question
-students may choose to partner up to discuss their myth/answer their question
