Activity: Using new vocabulary words from the book My Uncle Martins Words for
America, students will play a vocabulary spinner game in pairs. Spinner directions will
include the prompts of repeat 3 times, write it down, make a connection to another
word, give your definition of the word, and use the word in a sentence.

Day: 2
Curriculum area: Social Studies
Book: Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Big Biography by J.C. Reed
Activity: Working in pairs, students will create a timeline of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.s
life and answer related questions.

Day: 3
Curriculum area: Math
Book: My Brother Martin: A Sister Remembers Growing Up with the Rev. Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. by Christine King Farris and illustrated by Chris Soentpiet
Activity: Using Martin Luther King Jr. themed task cards, students will play a game of
Scoot to review and reinforce previously covered math skills.

Farris and illustrated by London Ladd
Activity: Students will create word clouds using words related to Martin Luther King, Jr.
that will be complied into a class book.

Book: A Picture Book of Martin Luther King, Jr. by David Adler and illustrated by
Robert Casilla
Activity: Students will write a sentence about the accomplishments of Martin Luther
King, Jr. as they nominate him for an award.
