serve at easter
Serving at Easter (April 16) is an incredible opportunity
to welcome guests and visitors who don't have a church
home into our church family, and show them the grace
of Jesus Christ. We want to create a warm, welcome
and joyful celebration at the Dr. Phillips Center for the
Performing Arts, and we'd love for you to be part of the
team! Sign up at fpco.org/host.

notes
How could a normal, sane person desire the death of
another human being by crucifixion? Too often we
avoid even thinking about the crucifixion because
it was such an horrendous act. Yet, it was the
central instrument in bringing salvation to all. We
cannot underestimate the depth of evil and hatred
in the hearts of those who plotted to kill Jesus.
The nails hanging from the cross on the chancel
today silently, yet visually speak of the depth of
Christs love for each of us who have gathered
for worship. Crucifixion was designed to be one
of the most excruciating, degrading, and lengthy
tortures imaginable. Death could occur any time
between six hours and four days. The purpose of the
crucifixion was to humiliate and intimidate any who
would oppose the ruling power which is why the
executions were always very public. In this mode of
bringing death, Jesus absorbed the depth of physical
pain, of alienation from His Father, the horror of
evil, and death itself willingly when He could have
called myriads of angels at any moment to rescue
Him from this black hole of evil. But He didn't. Take
these early moments of preparation to again thank
Jesus for His incalculable sacrifice in atoning for
your sin. - Dr. Dan Sharp
