Speaking Section

Paper 5 Speaking PART 1 3 minutes (5 minutes for groups of three)

Part 1 Interview
In this first part of the Speaking test, the examiner will ask you questions about topics such as family life, daily routines,
free-time activities, etc. and you will be expected to provide information about yourselves and give your opinions.

Interlocutor: Good morning/afternoon/evening. My name is and this is my colleague .

v How do you prefer to travel? i.e. by ship, train, car, etc.
v Tell me about a place you have visited that you liked.

Paper 5 Speaking PART 2 4 minutes (6 minutes for groups of three)

Part 2 Long turn


In this part of the test you have to speak for1minute without interruption. The examiner will give you two colour photographs and
you have to compare and contrast them as well as talk about your reaction to them. Your partner will get a different set of
photographs and has to do the same thing. When each of you has finished speaking, the other will be invited to comment on
the topic of the photographs.

Interlocutor: In this part of the test, Im going to give each of you two photographs. Id like you to talk about your
photographs on your own for about a minute, and also to answer a short question about your partners
photographs.

Candidate A, it's your turn first. Here are your photographs. They show people on holidays.
Candidate A has to look at the photographs on the next page.

Candidate A, Id like you to compare your photographs, saying if you prefer relaxing or adventurous
holidays.

Part 3 Collaborative Task


This part tests your ability to take part in a discussion. You have to work with the other candidate to carry out a task
based on some pictures which the examiner will give you. You have to talk for about 3 minutes.

Interlocutor: Now, Id like you to talk about something together for about three minutes. Look at the set of pictures
below. Imagine that you and your partner have won a competition. The prize is a Free Holiday in one of the places you
can see in the pictures. First talk to each other about which places you find the most interesting and then decide
which two you would choose and what you would like to see and do there.

Paper 5 Speaking PART 4 4 minutes (5 minutes for groups of three)

Part 4 Discussion
In this part of the test you have to take part in a discussion with the other candidate related to the topic
of the task you did in Part 3. The examiner will ask you both some questions.

What do you think the differences between a traveller and a tourist are?
What kind of holiday would you recommend for a student who doesnt have much money?
What would your ideal holiday be?
What kind of problems might you have if you travel? What do you think?
How important is tourism to your country? Do you agree?
