Technology that students will use to respond to questions/prompts:
Computer Hand-held student response system (such as iRespond) Phone
Tablet (such as iPad Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS activity and how you will
introduce the SRS activity: The students will start with a gallery walk in which they walk around the
room with a partner and complete the chart about the physical features of Latin America. They will state
what the physical feature is and where it is found. Then we will come back together as a group for direct
instruction. A PowerPoint presentation will be used to redefine their findings during the gallery walk.
Afterwards the students will create a "quilt" in which each pair of students will receive a sheet of
construction paper. On that sheet students are to illustrate the physical feature and provide a description of
the feature. After their class quilt, Kahoot! will be used to reinforce their knowledge of the region.
Describe the purpose of the SRS activity (check all that apply):
Assess Prior Knowledge Anticipatory Set (Create Interest in a Topic) To Illuminate Common
Misconceptions Formative Assessment of Content Knowledge (for purposes of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) Summative Assessment of Content Knowledge Test Preparation

Additional explanation of purpose (optional):
Type of session: Teacher-Paced Student-Paced
Identification of students:
Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the session
SRS activity will be anonymous
Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS activity: While the students are completing the quilt
the teacher is to login into Kahoot! on their computer. It would be best to project it on the board so that the
students are able to see the questions, and get the game running up with the game PIN. This way time will
not be wasted and it will be easier to direct the students to the game. It also helps to avoid any
troubleshooting.
Assuming that students have their personal devices such as smartphones or tablets, they will take those out
for the SRS. If the students do not have personal devices, doing this activity is still possible but they may
have to use a computer lab. The SRS activity should only take about 5 minutes. There will be only 10
questions and students will have 30 seconds to respond before moving onto the next question.
