Directions: Include an Entry Form for each artifact and respond to the following prompts.

Question 1: Explain the importance of the standards to the teaching profession.

The standards to the teaching profession are important, because it is the basis on which the students learn.
If you do not have good standards as a teacher it could be a detriment to the students that are in your
class. Teachers need to make sure that the students are reaching their potential to the highest extent in all
of the things that they do in order to succeed throughout the rest of their lives. The only way they can do
this is if a teacher sets good standards.

Question 2: What is the artifact? Identify the artifact (case study, PowerPoint presentation, field
evaluation, lesson plan, unit, video-tape, literature review, or other) and give a brief narrative description.
Use language of the standards to explain how the artifact relates to the OSTP and CEC standards and
illustrates your competencies as a future teacher.

The artifact that I chose is my co-teaching reflection from the ED classroom that I am in for
observations. This is my reflection on what I had done when I co-taught with my cooperating teacher. I
chose this, because in my reflection I talk about how the teacher knows how each of his students learn
which helps for making his life easier while teaching them and getting them to work on what they need
to in order to succeed. Since the students are not on an actual bell schedule the cooperating teacher has a
timer and sets it for 35 minute increments in order to give them an idea of how long it takes to do
something and it keeps them from talking to each other a lot, because they know they have to finish
what they are working on in the time frame of the bell. The teacher recognizes the characteristics of each
of the students with disabilities and shows it (in the reflection) by letting them do what they need to in
order to get ready for the class. Something that is outside of the reflection that I know is that he knows
how each student ticks and if he knows they are reaching their breaking point he starts to try and
alleviate the problem in whatever way works best for the students.

Beginning special education professionals use knowledge of general and specialized curricula to individualize
learning for individuals with exceptionalities.
(3.1) Beginning special education professionals understand the central concepts, structures of the
discipline, and tools of inquiry of the content areas they teach and can organize this knowledge, integrate
cross-disciplinary skills, and develop meaningful learning progressions for individuals with
exceptionalities
(3.2) Beginning special education professionals understand and use general and specialized content
knowledge for teaching across curricular content areas to individualize learning for individuals with
exceptionalities
(3.3) Beginning special education professionals modify general and specialized curricula to make them
accessible to individuals with exceptionalities.

Directions: Include an Entry Form for each artifact and respond to the following prompts.

Question 1: Explain the importance of the standards to the teaching profession.

The standards are important to the teaching profession, because a teacher needs to know the content of
what they are teaching, if they do not know they are incapable of teaching their students. The teacher
needs to use specific instructional strategies to teach specific lessons. It is important to keep with Ohios
standards for learning, because one of the biggest things the students must do is take the standardized
test. One of the most important things that a teacher needs to do is to connect the lesson to something
relevant to life. It is harder for students to learn something that they have no experience or idea with, they
learn better if they can relate to a topic. It is important for beginning special education professionals to
understand certain things that goes on with the students and how to activate their knowledge. It is also
needed for a beginning special education professionals to use general and specialized content in their
classrooms so that the students are able to learn to their fullest extent. One of the most important things is
for the special education teacher to modify some of the curricula to make it accessible for the students. If
a teacher doesnt do this, they can hurt the students learning.

The artifact for the second standard is a co-teaching lesson plan. In the lesson plan it goes over certain
students in a classroom who have certain disabilities and how the classroom will incorporate their needs
into the lesson. The lesson itself is in language arts. The students will work together in order to have a
more fun and inclusive experience when learning.

to interpret assessment results and guide educational decisions for individuals with exceptionalities
(4.3) Beginning special education professionals in collaboration with colleagues and families use
multiple types of assessment information in making decisions about individuals with exceptionalities
(4.4) Beginning special education professionals engage individuals with exceptionalities to work toward
quality learning and performance and provide feedback to guide them.

Directions: Include an Entry Form for each artifact and respond to the following prompts.

Question 1: Explain the importance of the standards to the teaching profession.

It is important for the teachers to be knowledgeable about assessment types and how to get data. If the
teacher is unable to get data off of what they do with the students, then they are doing something wrong.
It is important for a teacher to a variety of assessments in order for them to get a good look at the students
understanding of the lesson being taught and or was taught. The reason why these are good to do is
because it gives the teacher feedback on what they might need to change in a lesson or keep. It is also
important to use the information that you have received from them and tell them how they are doing. A
good thing for special education professionals to do when they try and collect data is to use technology.
Everything else is similar with general education teachers.

The artifact that I used for this is another lesson plan. The lesson that it was based on is reading and
language skills. The reason why I chose this particular lesson plan for this is because it has a couple of
different kinds of assessments for the lesson being incorporated into it. This will help me in the future see
what I need to do to see the students full potential.

critical thinking and problem solving to individuals with exceptionalities.

Directions: Include an Entry Form for each artifact and respond to the following prompts.

Question 1: Explain the importance of the standards to the teaching profession.

It is important for teachers to align their instructional goals with the school district and the and the
content standards. If they do not do this the students might suffer in testing. the standards go on to say
much that is similar to some of the other standards, but one of the other things that it talks about is select
activities for some learners and effectively use technology in the classroom. This is important mainly
because of how technology has taken over the majority of our lives and how much it plays a part in our
school system. One thing that schools have to do that is important is to keep involved with the students
family. The CEC also mentions technology as a support for assessment.

The artifact that I chose for this standard is my philosophy of tech paper. In the paper it just talks about
the things that you see in the schools and at home and what you can do in the classroom to incorporate
it. One of the things that I mentioned in it was a flipped classroom and that is a good way for students to
get more out of a classroom.

teach individuals with exceptionalities how to adapt to different environments.
(2.3) Beginning special education professionals know how to intervene safely and appropriately with
individuals with exceptionalities in crisis

Directions: Include an Entry Form for each artifact and respond to the following prompts.

Question 1: Explain the importance of the standards to the teaching profession.

It is important to be fair with all of the students, because if you are fair with them they will be willing to
put in the extra effort that you may need them to give you. Another thing for a teacher to do that is
important is to have a safe place for the students where they can talk or act freely. It is important to have
the students know the value of teamwork and independent work. Special education professionals
collaborate with other colleagues in order to get the most meaningful work out of the students. This helps
because you need to be working with everyone in order to fit to the childs needs. Another important
thing is to be motivational to the students.

The artifact that I have chosen for this is a paper that I had called What Does a Special Education
Teacher Really Do? I chose this artifact for this standard, because it talks about the collaboration that
some people have to do in order to help the students with disabilities. It talks about more things
throughout, but that is the main focus for that.

Question 1: Explain the importance of the standards to the teaching profession.

One important thing is for teachers to communicate well. If the teacher doesnt do so there will be a lot of
confused people. One of the best and important things is to communicate with the family, student and the
community. These are the people the student is around the majority of the time so you need to be on good
terms with them. Collaboration is key.

The artifact that I have chosen to use is the TANF Town Simulation certificate. In TANF town you get to
see how powerful a community, family and school really is. This is a good way to show people what
goes around them on a daily basis and how to better it as a teacher and a fellow community member.

Question 1: Explain the importance of the standards to the teaching profession.

Teachers doing everything they can and by the book is very important, because they are role models for
their students. Another thing they must do is to keep the students engaged so that they can be interested in
learning what the lesson is. The special education teachers have to do basically the same thing. They have
to be a little more involved with everything though.

The artifact that I chose for this is a small essay that I did that is called Thinking About Inclusive
Education. This is all about what it sounds like and it goes with the standard in how the special
education professionals have to collaborate well with others, but so does the general education teacher.
