The PA amplifier amplifies the audio input that has the highest priority and
sends the signal to these places :
The amplified audio to the REU goes through muting circuits for the forward
and aft attendant speakers.
When an attendant makes an announcement, the muting circuits stop the
audio for that attendants speaker.

3. Interfaces.
Power. Chimes.
The passenger address (PA) amplifier gets 28v dc from the 28v dc battery bus. The PA amplifier supplies chimes for these conditions :
The prerecorded announcement/boarding music reproducer gets 115v ac from
115v ac transfer bus 2. - Lavatory smoke - high chime,
- NO SMOKING/FASTEN SEAT BELTS signs operate - Low chime,
Audio. - Attendant call switch operates - high chime from passenger service
The PA system receives audio from these sources : units and lavatories, high/low chime from the flight compartment and
attendant stations.
- Right compartment microphones,
- Attendant microphones. Gain Control.
The PA amplifier receives gain signals from the REU.
The passenger entertainment system also supply audio to the PA system. The REU receives inputs from the engine running relays.
Flight compartment audio has the first priority. When the engines operate, the PA amplifier gain increases to compensate for
The second priority is from the attendant microphones. the increase in the ambient noise level.
The third priority is prerecorded announcements from the video entertainment
system.
The fourth priority is boarding music from the audio entertainment system.
Priority circuits in the PA amplifier receive the audio inputs and set their
priority.
The audio with the highest priority is amplified and goes to the speakers.
The PA amplifier supplies the side tone to the remote electronics unit (REU).
The REU supplies the side tone to the flight crew headsets.

Features.
Each passenger service unit (PSU) has a 6.5 inch speaker.
When you remove the speaker from the PSU assembly, make sure you do not
damage the speaker gasket.
This gasket is between the speaker and the PSU assembly.

Each lavatory passenger service unit (PSU) has a 5-inch speaker.
A latch holds the PSU assembly closed.
To open the assembly, put a small rod in the access hole.
Hold the PSU panel, and push the rod against the spring clip to release the
latch.
Lower the PSU panel assembly until the lanyard holds the PSU.

Features.
There is a 5-inch speaker in each attendant station and galley.
The audio signal for the attendant speakers goes through mute relays in the
remote electronics unit.
The mute relays stop the attendant speaker from operating during PA
announcements.
This prevents feedback through the speakers.

5. Functional Description.
Power. The amplifier and control circuits also supply the front panel indications.
The passenger address (PA) amplifier receives power from the 28v dc battery bus. The amplifier and control circuits receive test signals from the test circuits. The
control circuits supply output signals to the front panel indications.
General.
The PA system supplies these outputs : - Voice audio, The amplifier gain increases 6 decibels (db) when one or both engines operate.
- Chimes. The gain relay in the REU receives inputs from the engine running relays. These
inputs are ground with the engines off.
The voice audio output has this priority : - Pilots,
- highest priority, When an engine operates, the running relay for that engine sends an open.
- Flight attendants, The gain relay uses these inputs to control the amplifier gain.
- Lowest priority.
The input circuits get the audio from the flight compartment microphones and
attendant handsets.
The amplifier priority logic circuits get the push-to-talk (PTT) signals.
PTT signals from the flight compartment the attendant stations and from the tape
reproducer (message announcement) also go to the passenger entertainment
system.

5.1. Flight Crew Announcements - Operation. Do these steps to make a PA handset announcement :
To make an announcement with the boom mic or oxygen mask mic, you must
first set the audio control panel.
You select the microphone source (boom or mask), and set the microphone
selector switch (PA).
You adjust for received PA volume with the PA receiver volume control.
To key the microphone, you use either the audio control panel R/T-I/C switch
or the control wheel MIC switch.
With the audio control panel microphone selector switch set, you can also
make an announcement with the flight interphone hand mic.
Push the hand mic push to talk switch and speak through the microphone.

6. PA Amplifier Maintenance.
- TEST,
- NORM,
- CAL.
In the CAL position, the output level shows on the LED lamps.
Normally, the - 1 db & the 0 db lamps are on.
If you do not see the correct indication, there may be a problem with either
the PA amplifier or the output level adjustment.
