Menu database
This database defines the structure of the relay menu for the courier interface, the front
panel user interface and the MODBUS interface. This includes all of the relay settings and
measurements. Datatypes for MODBUS and indexed strings for Courier and the user
interface are cross-referenced to the Menu Datatype Definition section (using a G Number).
For all settable cells the setting limits and default value are also defined within this database.
Event data
This section specifies all the event information that can be produced by the relay. It details
exactly how each event will be presented via the Courier, User and MODBUS interfaces.

1. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this document is to describe the specific implementation of the Distributed
Network Protocol (DNP) version 3.0 within P34x MiCOM relays.
The MiCOM P34x uses the Triangle MicroWorks, Inc. DNP 3.0 Slave Source Code Library
version 3.00.
This document, in conjunction with the DNP 3.0 Basic 4 Document Set, and the DNP Subset
Definitions Document, provides complete information on how to communicate with P340
relays with the DNP 3.0 protocol.
This implementation of DNP 3.0 is fully compliant with DNP 3.0 Subset Definition Level 2. It
also contains many Subset Level 3 and above features.

Notes:
1. A Default variation refers to the variation responded when variation 0 is requested
and/or in class 0, 1, 2, or 3 scans.
2. For static (non-change-event) objects, qualifiers 17 or 28 are only responded when a
request is sent with qualifiers 17 or 28, respectively. Otherwise, static object requests
sent with qualifiers 00, 01, 06, 07, or 08, will be responded with qualifiers 00 or 01.
For change-event objects, qualifiers 17 or 28 are always responded.
4. INTERNAL INDICATIONS
The following table lists the DNP3.0 Internal Indications (IIN) and identifies those that are
supported by the MiCOM P34x.
The IIN forms an information element used to convey the internal states and diagnostic
results of the responding device. The information can be used by the receiving station to
perform error recovery or other suitable functions. The IIN is a two-octet field that follows the
function code in all responses. When a request cannot be processed due to formatting
errors or the requested data is not available, the IIN is always returned with the appropriate
bits set.
IIN
Indication Description Supported
Octet Bit
Set when a request is received with the
destination address of the all stations address
(6553510). It is cleared after the next
response (even if a response to a global
0 All stations message received request is required).
This IIN is used to let the master station know
that a "broadcast" message was received by
the relay.
Set when data that has been configured as
Class 1 data is ready to be sent to the master.
1 Class 1 data available The master station should request this class
data from the relay when this bit is set in a
response.
Set when data that has been configured as
Class 2 data is ready to be sent to the master.
1
2 Class 2 data available The master station should request this class
data from the relay when this bit is set in a
response.
Set when data that has been configured as
Class 3 data is ready to be sent to the master.
3 Class 3 data available The master station should request this class
data from the relay when this bit is set in a
response.
The relay requires time synchronization from
the master station (using the Time and Date
object).
4 Time-synchronization required This IIN is cleared once the time has been
synchronized. It can also be cleared by
explicitly writing a 0 into this bit of the Internal
Indication object.

6. POINT LIST
The tables in the following sections identify all the individual data points provided by this
implementation of DNP 3.0.
Generally, the accuracy of the time-stamp is with respect to when the DNP driver in the
device scans and detects a change. The scan interval is 0.5s, which can result in up to a
0.5s latency error between when the event actually occurred and its timestamp 3. However,
the time stamps associated with points that originate from the devices Digital Data Bus
(DDB) do not suffer from this latency error because their time of change is recorded at
source 4.
3 Note that this is in addition to any latency that the device might introduce in detecting changes to its
external inputs.
4 Object points associated with a DDB signal have their DDB number indicated in the point list table.
5 Note that points marked Never are inputs that have been forced offline but have not been removed
entirely in order to preserve point allocation compatibility with previous device software versions.
These points will always have a value of zero and will never generate an Object 2 change-event.

6.2 Binary output status points and control relay output block
The following table lists both the Binary Output Status Points (Object 10) and the Control
Relay Output Block (Object 12).
Binary Output Status points are included in Class 0 data set. (Since there is not a change-
event object for the binary outputs, the binary output points are not part of the class 1, 2, or 3
data sets). It is not possible to configure the class 0 membership of this object with MiCOM
S1 Studio.
The validity of each point is reported through the online bit in the flag, which is supplied
for each point with the with flag object variations. Points reported as being offline, will
typically be points that are invalid for the relays current configuration, which is a product of
its model number and current settings.
The Control Relay Output Block (CROB) implementation is compliant with the DNP technical
bulletin TB2000-006, which rescinds CROB behaviors specified in the original four document
set and addendum sub-set documents.
The following text is a brief summary of DNP technical bulletin TB2000-006:
Each control point in the CROB may be either a "complimentary control function" or a "single
function".
Examples of complimentary control functions are:
On and Off
Examples of single-function controls are:
Trip
Activate
Relay Menu Database P34x/EN MD/J76
A point index cannot support both complimentary and single-function methods of operation.
Complimentary control function points require the use of a complementary control-code pair.
The CROB provides two sets of control pairs:
Latch Off and Pulse Trip must perform the same function
Single-function control points may permit one or more of the following control codes:

6.3 Counters
The following table lists both Binary Counters (Object 20) and Frozen Counters (Object 21).
When a freeze function is performed on a Binary Counter point, the frozen value is available
in the corresponding Frozen Counter point.
Frozen counter points (object 21) correspond to the same point index as the counters (object
20). Counter events objects (object 22) only report the most recent change, so the
maximum number of events supported is the same as the total number of counters. Frozen
counter points (object 23) are generated when ever a freeze operation is performed. The
frozen counter event queues will store the points for up to two freeze operations.
The Binary Counters (object 20) and Frozen Counters (object 21) are included in class 0
polls.
The validity of each point is reported through the online bit in the flag, which is supplied
for each point with the with flag object variations. Points reported as being offline, will
typically be points that are invalid for the relays current configuration, which is a product of
its model number and current settings.

Path names are tolerant to forward (/) or back (\) slashes as directory separators.
Directory \dist_records\all\binary contains all disturbance records present in the relay.
Directory \dist_records\unextracted\binary contains only records that have not yet been
extracted.
In order to mark a record as extracted, a file delete command should be issued to the
disturbance record .dat file.
As disturbance records come in file-pairs, (configuration and data file), both files should be
read before the delete8 command is issued.
8 Only the .dat file requires the delete command to be issued, .cfg file will be automatically deleted.

7. APPENDIX A
The Alias Control Input points shadow the Control Input points and have slightly different
properties. The changes are summarised as follows:
32 DNP3.0 Binary Output Status points have been created for Control Inputs 1 to 32, which
alias the existing Control Input points.
If the Control Input DDB signal is already SET and a new DNP SET command is sent to
that Control Input, the Control Input DDB signal pulses to RESET and then back to SET.
If the Control Input DDB signal is already RESET and a new DNP RESET command is
sent to that Control Input, the Control Input DDB signal pulses to SET and then back to
RESET.
