I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

1. Identify the different parts of the Microsoft Excel.


2. Point out the different parts of the Microsoft Excel.
3. Recognize the importance of knowing the different parts of the Microsoft Excel.

TOPIC: Introduction to Microsoft Excel

2. Analysis

Before discussing those words, our


lesson for today is Microsoft Excel.

Can anyone define what is Microsoft Sir it is a computerized worksheet.


Excel?

Very good!

It means that it is a spreadsheet


application program included in
Microsoft Office and its full name is
Microsoft Office Excel.

A Microsoft Excel has the standard


feature of an electronic spreadsheet
which uses cell that are represented in
rows and columns designed to perform
basic arithmetic operations.

It is also widely used in accounting and


financial applications, as well as in
statistics and engineering calculations.

And the program supports and displays


graphs, charts and histograms from a
given set of groups of data.

What is a Worksheet? It is an on screen spreadsheet that contains


various cells in columns and rows, Sir.

Thats right!

By entering information in the form of


labels, values and formulas into the
worksheet cell, you create tables or
spreadsheets, useful for summarizing,
tabulating, and analyzing data.

So, here is how the Worksheet looks


like.

The Excel Window

It has 14 parts.

By looking and checking your scratch,


we may now enumerate the different
part of Microsoft Excel.

What is the number 1 part? Sir it is the Quick Access Toolbar.

Very Good!

It provides access to the most common


Word commands including Save, Undo,
Repeat and Copy. You can customize,
add or delete buttons on this toolbar.

Number 2 please Title Bar Sir.

It shows the open program and the


name of the open file.

Number3 Window Control Buttons

It can minimize, maximize, restore and


close the window.

Number 4 File Menu

Provides access to the menu in Office


2010.

When you click this button it shows the


following menus: Save, Save As, Open,
Close, Info, Recent, New, Print, Save
and Send, Help, Add Ins, Options,
Exit.

Number 5 please Ribbon

It contains the commands organized in


three components.

What are the three components? a. Tabs provides access to many tools and
contain related groups
b. Groups organize related commands.
Group name appears below the
Group ribbon
c. Commands appear within each group

The next is? Name Box Sir

Ok. It shows the cell reference of the


active cell. This can also be used to
locate a cell.

The next one is the? Formula Bar

And what is that? It is the area where we can enter or edit text
or formulas.

Number 8 Sir, it is Active Cell.

You got it!

It is a cell that is selected. It is indicated


in the Name Box at the Formula Bar.

Next word please Sir, Cell.

Yes, it is a rectangular area where a


column and a row intersect.

Each cell is identified by a cell
reference which is its column and row
location.

Number 10 Worksheet Sir.

Each workbook contains worksheets


with sheet tabs located at the bottom
of the worksheet.

The sheet tab identifies the name of


the worksheet ( example Sheet1,
Sheet2, Sheet3 )

Number 11 Sir, Workbook.

What is Workbook?

This is a file that contains one or more


worksheet, which you can use to
organize various kinds of related
information.

And always remember that workbook


contains worksheet with sheet tabs
located at the bottom of the
worksheet.

Number 12 Start Button

It is the main menu and the access to


all programs and files available in your
computer.

It is also used to shut down or restart


your computer.

Second to the last word Task Bar Sir

It contains the button sized files that


are open.

And finally the last one is? Scroll Bars

It allows you to easily go to the top or


bottom, left or right of the worksheet.

So class, those are the different parts


of the Microsoft Excel and those parts
can be found at the Excel Window.
