mode.ThiscanbasicallybedoneforANYMMORPGthatyouhavetheserverfilesfor.

Thisguideassumesthatyouareabletogetallnecessaryserverandclientfilesontothemachineyouwishtorun
theserveron,eitherbyusingatemporaryinternetconnectionoradatatransfermethod.

Thissupplementalguidewillnotcontainanyscreenshots,butVERYsimpleinstructionssothatanyonecanget
theirownMUofflineserverandclientrunningonthesamemachine.Otherpeopleontheforummaybeabletoruna
similarsetupusingadifferentmethod,butthisisthewaythatIexperimentedwiththatworkedforme.Thisisa
verysimpleandbasicguideandisofferedASISbecauseIcurrentlydon'thavetimetomakeamoreextensive
guidewithmorebellsandwhistles.IfyoufollowtheinstructionsitWILLwork,guaranteed.Icurrentlydon'thavethe
timetomakeacomprehensiveguidewithscreenshots.

ThisconfigurationisbasicallyforpeopledesiringtoplayMUattheirleisurewithoutnecessarilyhavinganinternet
connectiontoconnecttoaserverwith.IplayMMORPG'sinan"offline"modeonmyownserversbecauseItravel
quiteabitanddon'talwayshaveaccesstohighspeedinternet,sothissetupisidealforpeopleinasimilar
situation.IamrunningthisonahighendlaptopwhenItravel.

IfyouwanttosetupanMUserveronaLAN(router),thenthereareotherguidestohelpyouaccomplishthatas
well.Usethesearchfunction.ThisguideisonlyforsettingupanMUserverandclientonthesamecomputerwith
NOinternetconnectionandplayMUinanofflinemode.

Usethepostedinstallationguidefortheserverandclientversionyouareusing.Eachinstallationguidewillgiveyou
thelinkstodownloadtheserverfiles,clients,patches(ifneeded)andvariousMUeditorsyouwillneedto
create/editaccountsandcharacters.ThisisONLYasupplementalguidetoaddtotheinstallationguidestoset
everythingelseup.

YouCANuse"127.0.0.1"asyourIP,butIprefertonotdoitthatway.IusedaMicrosoftloopbackadapterto
simulateaninternetconnection.Ifyoudon'thaveMicrosoftLoopbackAdapterinstalled,gotoyour"Install
Hardware"menuinyourControlPanelandinstallit.

Ikeptmyfirewallenabledwhilerunningtheserverandclient,anditdoesnoteffectport,serverorclientaccessin
ANYwayaslongaseverythingisgiventheproperaccesses.SinceyouwillbeplayingOFFLINEwithNOinternet
connection,thereisreallynoneedtohavethefirewallon....butitwillmakenodifferenceifyouallowallthe
programstheproperaccesses.IfyouuseZoneAlarmtheprogramswillrequestaccessestotheTrustedZone,etc
astheyneedthem.Makesureyouclickthe"RememberDecision"boxonthefirewallaccessrequest.

1.OnceyouhaveMSLoopbackAdapterinstalled,MAKESUREyour"1394Connection"internetadapteris
DISABLEDunderyourNetworkConnections.

2.DISABLEyouractualinternetconnectionadapterunderNetworkConnections.

3.Atthispoint,underNetworkConnections,ALLyourinternetconnectionadaptersshouldbeDISABLED.

4.ENABLEtheMicrosoftLoopbackAdapteryoujustinstalled.RightClick,chooseproperties.Thechoose"Internet
Protocol(TCP/IP),thenclickproperties.ManuallyinputanIPaddress(IusedtheactualIPaddressIwouldhaveif
Iwasconnectedtomyinternetserviceprovider(ISP).OncedoneclickOKandexit.YourMSLoopbackadapter
shouldnowreflectthatitisconnected,andifyourightclickonStatus,thenSupport,itshouldshowtheIPaddress
youjustmanuallyinputted.

Atthispoint,theMSLoopbackAdaptershouldbetheONLYinternetadapterthatiscurrentlyenabled.

ALLothersshouldstillbedisabled(althoughyouCANstillhaveyourotheradaptersenabled,itmaycauseerrors
lateron,sojustdisablethem.)Iturnedawirelessadapterontoconnecttoaprinter,andeverythingstillworked
fine....butforsimplicitysake,ifyougeterrorsandareunsure,justdisableallotheradaptersexcepttheLoopback
AdapterwhileplayingMU.

5.NowfollowtheinstallationguideEXACTLYthatcamewiththeserverandclientfilesyoudownloaded.

TheONLYchangeswhereyouwilldeviatefromthepostedinstallationguidearethefollowing:

a.UseyourMicrosoftLoopbackAdapterIPinALLyourconfigurationfileswhereitisrequiredforyoutoinputyour
IPaddress.Forthepurposeofthisguide,noneoftheentriesshouldbesetto"127.0.0.1"

b.IMPORTANT:Whenyoucreateyourcustomlauncher,useyourMSLoopbackAdapterIP,NOT"127.0.0.1".Also,
useport44405forthelauncher,andNOTport55901oryoumaynotbeabletoconnecttotheserver.

Onceeverythingisinstalledaccordingtotheguide,andyouhavecreatedyourgameaccount(s)run/enable
everythinginthisorder:

1.MSLoopbackAdapter(withNOotheradaptersenabled)

2.MSSQLServiceManagertohaveyourMSSQLserver/databasesactiveandrunning.

3.RunMSSQLEnterpriseManagerandmakesurethedatabasesyoucreatedduringinstallationareaccessible,or
elseyoudidsomethingwrongduringinstallation.

4.RuntheMUServerStartuputilitythatwillgetallthegameserversrunning.WAITforittocompleteandreflect
thatALLserversare"Ready".IMPORTANT:ifyougeterrorsforanyserverduringthestartup,youdidsomething
wrongandneedtogobackandcheckyourserverconfigfiles....alotoftimesyoumistypedtheIPaddress.

5.Runthecustomlauncheryoumadetostartthegameclient.

IMPORTANT:Ifyoudoanythingoutoforder,ORyouSTILLhaveyour"1394Connection"adapteroryour"Internet
Connection"adapterSTILLenabled,thoseconnectionsCANblockyoufromconnectingtoyourMUserverviathe
LoopbackAdapter.TheLoopbackAdaptershouldbetheONLYadapterrunningwithplayingMU.ItisPOSSIBLEto
stillrunotheradapters(wireless,internet,1394)....BUTdependingonyourcomputerconfigurationstheyCANcause
errors,soitisrecommendedtosimplydisablethemwhileplayingMUofflineinasingleplayermode.

IfyoufollowedeverythingEXACTLY,thisWILLwork100%withNOerrorsandenableyoutoplayMUinanoffline
modewiththeserverandclientonthesamemachine.Thesestepsworked100%formewithnoerrors,andIam
currentlyplayingMUonaversion1.02qserverandclientonacomputerrunningWinXPSP2withNOinternet
connection.

Ifeverythingdoesnotwork100%withnoerrorsandallowyoutologintoyourserverandplay,thenyouwillneedto
retraceyourstepsandverifytheprocedures,although95%ofthetimeyoumadeanerrorintheserverconfigfiles,
soverifythesefirst.

IhopethisguidewashelpfultothosedesiringtoplayMUinasingleplayerofflinemode.Iapologizefornotmaking
aguidewithallthebells&whistlesandscreenshots,butIdidn'thavethetime.Enjoy.
