Tips for Professional Presentation

The purpose of your education is to prepare for a professional career. Therefore, ALL
assignments are expected to have a professional presentation.
Prepare before you write, by organizing and planning out what you want to say.

Include your name, date, and title of the project or assignment

When answering questions, frame the question:
o Identify the source of the question (e.g. Chapter 3, Comprehension
question #9, pg. 76)
o Either 1) state the question, or 2) reframe the question within the answer
Spelling & grammar Use Spell Check features!
o Your sentence and paragraphs must be clear. If I cant understand what
you are trying to say, it is wrong.
o Do NOT use texting abbreviations
o Avoid run-on and incomplete sentences
Formatting & consistency
o Develop your own format. In this course, do NOT use the assignment
format (e.g. font, line spacing, etc.) as a template for your work. I want to
see your style.
o Be consistent within your work. For example, if you underline the first
bullet point, underline all bullet points, etc.
Plagiarism Learn to restate the source in your own words. If you quote (the text
or other reference), you need to use proper citations.
Read and respond to the question that is asked. Make sure you address ALL
portions of the question.
Describe, define, and elaborate. Simple answers earn simple grades. Support
your answers. Concise answers are fine, as long as they provide adequate
detail. In general, the best answer to a question (for most educational
coursework) will correctly use terms that have been defined for a topic.

Assignments must be typed in Microsoft Word or other software as required on the

assignment.
Assignments must be submitted via D2L. Look for the Assignment #X Submit icon
within the Assignment #X folder.

A note about academic integrity:

As a student entering a professional field you are expected to conduct your affairs in an
ethical manner. Blatant cheating is easily recognized by students and faculty and will
result in University prescribed disciplinary actions. You are encouraged to study with
your peers. You may learn techniques for solution of problems from peers. Discussing
problems with others can enable you to see solutions that you were unable to see
before. But any work you submit for evaluation must be your work. It must be unique.

The ETSU Student Disciplinary Policies are available at

http://catalog.etsu.edu/content.php?
catoid=11&navoid=522#Student_Disciplinary_Policies. Students are encouraged to
read this policy.
Cases of academic misconduct (including plagiarism, cheating, falsification, and
unauthorized access) and the penalty imposed by the instructor will be reported to the
department head and the Office of the Dean of Student Services.
