Inclusive Education
The Purpose
The purpose of inclusive education,
Is NOT the same as for a student without SENthat is, it IS NOT to bring
students with SEN up to the level of, or maintain their grades at the same level as,
students without SEN.
It IS to meet the individualised goals of students with SEN, within the context of
general educational settings and activities. The following questions need to be
addressed while making adaptations to the curriculum. Can a student with SEN
participate in the classroom
Just like his/her classmates?
With environmental adaptations?
With instructional adaptations?
With adapted materials?
With adapted expectations?
The Hard of Hearing children are those who have hearing loss but who can hear if
spoken too loudly, without a hearing aid. For such children integration is not
difficult. Most of them are already studying in the classroom. A hearing aid will
enable them to hear better.
The Deaf are those who cannot hear even if spoken to very loudly. They required
preparation before integration/ inclusion in general settings or classroom. They
need to be prepared in basic skills through special techniques. Hearing aids help
them to become more functional.
