Classificatio i. describe how living things are classified into broad groups according to common
observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including
n microorganisms, plants and animals

By the end of i. planning different types of scientific enquiries to answer questions, including
this block you recognising and controlling variables where necessary

Provided: Classification crown labels, Classification Connoisseur score sheets, classification terms,
examples of classification routes, images for classification routes, the tale of Red Panda and Giant Panda
You will need: Internet access

Session 2
Provided: Odd one out resources, microbe classification key, classification keys and living things (cats
and buttercups), tricky customers
You will need: Internet access

Session 3
Provided: Classification guidance, bees, birds and butterfly images
You will need: Sweet selection, bowl, A2 paper, pen, scissors & glue

Session 4
Provided: Botanical drawings, leaf feature files, leaf classification resources
You will need: Bags, magnifying glasses, cameras

Session 5
Provided: Unusual animal images, name and description sheets, recently discovered species (images and
guidance)
You will need: World map, Internet access

Session 6
Provided: Genus arguments for the Hog-nosed Shrew Rat, horse/unicorn classification route, Animalia
classes, Animalia classification system, picture of unicorn
