1 RECEIVING, HANDLING AND STORAGE OF EQUIPMENT

1.1 Inventory of Equipment

A detailed inventory of all material shall be performed by the Installer against the shipping
packing lists provided. In the event of either a quantitative or qualitative discrepancy, Report
shall be issued. All discrepancies shall be reported immediately to the GE Technical Advisor
on site for verification and assistance in initiating any corrective action and/or claims.

NOTE: All material and equipment packed in the Summary Sheet container, whether
applicable for this instruction or not, shall be inventoried at this time.

1.2 Storage of Equipment and Materials

The Equipment and/or materials defined in this instruction can normally be stored in an
outdoor lay down area with suitable cribbing to elevate the equipment above ground and with
adequate weather protection provided (i.e., tarps). Other specific storage and/or preservation
instructions from the Owner and/or GE's Technical Advisor on site, if applicable, shall also
apply. All material received shall be stored and arranged to accommodate correct order of
installation. Refer to the specific equipment erection instructions for other details regarding
special storage requirements.

NOTE: The material and equipment packed in the Summary Sheet container is categorized
for identification and stored on shelves within the container. This container, with all contents,
is normally positioned in the vicinity of the gas turbine unit foundation pedestal during the time
of erection.

2 FOUNDATIONS INTERFACE CHECKS

It is critical that the foundation and support areas be thoroughly inspected prior to setting the
gas turbine unit in place. These inspections are required to verify that the foundation has
been properly formed with all required anchor bolts, grout pockets, restraining blocks, jacking
posts, conduit stub-ups and cable pits for installation of the equipment covered by this
instruction.

2.1 Inspect/Verify Foundation Interface, Embedment and Support Areas

2.1.1 Verify that all required foundation embedment, fixators and sole plates for the
Gas turbine equipment have been installed.

2.1.2 Verify all foundation and support areas for correct location, size, elevation
and potential interferences of grout pockets, anchor bolts, pits, embedded
conduit, piping and height restrictions with respect to the equipment to be
installed.

2.1.3 Clean as required the foundation sub-sole plates and embedded restraining
blocks and apply a light grade machinists oil.

2.1.4 Verify that all foundation interface checks have been carried out. Complete

2.2 Preparation of Foundation, Packers and Shims

2.2.1 Clean the foundation plates to remove any preservative coating or oxidation
build-up. The edges of the plates should be de-burred to prevent injury to
personnel. Verify that the fixators have been properly set to the elevation
specified in MLI 0323/ MLI 0411 & instruction GEK-106957
Carefully lower the foundation plates into position and inspect each fixator
location for proper contact. Measure the foundation plates once again for
elevation and levelness. See specif Gen Install Fixtors (MLI0323)

2.2.2 Prepare gas turbine foundation bolting arrangement material


MLI 1603

Verify that all foundation checks per chapter 2 have been carried out as
required. Complete installation report Sheet.

2.3 Preparation of Equipment for Installation

2.3.1 Remove all general shipping braces, saddles, bolsters, shipping covers,
packing and supports as required to permit unrestricted installation of the
equipment.

NOTE: Do not remove any braces or supports that may be installed for stiffening
purposes for lifting and handling of the equipment. Do not remove the shipping
covers on the gas turbine inlet casing and exhaust frame at this time. These covers
shall remain in place until it is absolutely necessary to remove for erection of the
associated components.

2.4 Verifications to be done on the groundworks and embedded parts

2.4.1 Inspections to be done in priority:

- Anchor bolts positions (see chapter 2.1.4)


- Grout Pockets: Slag have to be removed.
- Centerline Reference marks, reference level, embedded parts.
- Different level of grout.

2.4.2 Important checks in case of utilization of adjustable support devices


(Fixators) :

- Qualitative and Quantitative inspection of materials

- Inspection after final grouting of Fixators


- Record a groundwork level. Etablish the higher point of the groundwork. This
point will become the reference point for the installation of the first Fixator.
- Check that all Fixators are preseted to midstroke. With a mallet, hit the top of the
Fixator in order to back-lash.
- Check that a 1 to 1.5 gap exist under each Fixators in order to permit grouting.
- Install base plates, then install shims (without oil nor grease)
- 1.5 to 2 days are generally necessary to obtain hardening of the grout. DO NOT
put any load on the Fixators before this period.
- When load is on the base plates and Fixators, verify that load applied on each
Fixators is correct. See MLI 0323 or D066 (for Single Shaft) for correspondence
between load and torque.

WARNING - Extreme Care must be taken in Fixators load checks operation. Change load on a
Fixator can result to create a overload on the other Fixators which can break
instantaneously.
- Before each Fixators adjustement, check that anchor bolt is loosed.

3 MECHANICAL ERECTION

3.1 Installation of the GT on the foundation- MLI 1603

Verify that all foundation plates are clean and in position. Clean the centerline anchor
plate and gib block and place on the foundation embedments as shown in the
Drawings ML1603.
Place protective PVC or steel piping over the anchor bolts to protect the threads
during unit setting.
Position shim packs on foundation plates and set turbine down on hard wood blocking
above the shims and foundation plates but, on the anchor bolts. Carefully jack turbine
down over the anchor bolts on the foundation plates and shim packs. Inspect each
fixator for proper loading per manufacturers instructions. See MLI 0323 and drawing
MLI 1603
Verify that the fixators have been properly set to the elevation specified in 0411, and
0323
Carefully lower the foundation plates into position and inspect each fixator location for
proper contact. Measure the foundation plates once again for elevation and levelness

- It is recommended to use a 200T jack


- GT drop check must be repeated 3 times and the average of the dial
indicators readings will be taken to write the inspection certificate.
- Final value must not exceed 0.015. If this value is exceeded, shims under
back supports will be modified and the test repeated.
- Before doing 3 points check, check sockets type (hexagonal or 12 points)
because it is not a standard installation tool.

3.2 Install GT Load Coupling MLI 0411 & 1319


Prepare the load coupling and hardware for installation by cleaning any shipping
preservative from the components. Measure the coupling flange and hardware prior
to installation. Using temporary bolts and dry ice, make up the load coupling to the
GT rotor after aligning match marks as described in the 0411 instructions. Once the
coupling faces are complete, replace the temporary bolts with the permanent
hardware following the instructions in 1309. Refer to 1309 and 1319 drawings for
details of the load coupling and hardware. Information about the mating GT
compressor rotor can be found in the 1302 and 1303 drawings. Push the GT rotor
assembly downstream towards the exhaust against the active thrush bearing.

4 PIPING INSTALLATION

Assemble all on base GT and module interconnection piping in accordance with the respective
PED requirements. Complete weld mapping, NDT and pressure testing as necessary. Confirm
all material, personnel and plant traceability records as necessary. Refer to each system
specific assembly drawing to identify the system PED category and testing requirements.

CAUTION : For the interconnection piping


Some piping are supplied with over length and tack welded flanges to allow adjustment
and correct assembly on the site. Piping with over length will be installed at the end to
allow final adjustments

5 MECHANICAL COMPLETION

5.1 FLUSHING

Complete GT and GENERATOR lube oil, lift oil and control oil flush, utilizing flushing
hardware supplied under MLI A125 and in accordance with the appropriate
cleanliness specification.

5.2 LOAD SHAFT RUN OUT

Following lube oil flush reinstatement and upon availability of lift oil system,
commence load shaft run out checks. Upon confirmation that load shaft run out data
meets specification, record data on installation inspection sheet.

5.3 FINAL ALIGNEMENT MLI 0411

Commence final alignment of the GT to the Generator, moving the Gas turbine as the
preferred option. Upon successful completion of the alignment to GE record
alignment data. Complete installation inspection sheet: 385A6381
