The differences between primary, secondary and tertiary sources is the
initial primary original composition or materials as first created by the
author/composer, meaning it is the direct source of the
creation/observation. Then a party who was not directly involved in the
primary stage takes such works and analyses and collates information to
publish their own version as secondary source. Then a third study is
compiled by another using both the primary product and taking from the
secondary study to create another document source of the information.
Example:
Primary Composed opera score.
Secondary synopsis created from original opera.
Tertiary - Anthology is compiled using excerpts from original opera,
primary, while using synopsis from secondary source.

1(b)
Unlike a performing edition an urtext edition does not include editorial
changes therefore to be considered as the primary source being that it is
literally unedited, as originally created.

In my opinion, from list provided, the following are the three most
important questions:
1. What is the publication date? Is the source kept current?
2. What is the authors or editors authority?
3. Is the content accurate?
In addition: Does the author acknowledge sources?

Overcoming such obstacles:
When compiling the arts components you need to ensure that you
are revealing through this an added insight to your
theses/dissertation that you may not have been able to convey
through text. It is the portrayal of an aspect of your study.
As there are no boundaries and in essence it is still considered new
ground. It is important to develop your own framework even though
the arts element is included so that there is still a structure and flow
to the theses/dissertation. This will ensure that you fulfil
requirements albeit not in a conservative sense.
It is about an exploration of conveying concepts through arts so as
long as you can make the connection between your
theses/dissertation and arts elements you are free to break the
mould. Trust in your ideas and take a leap of faith.
Prior to enrolling in honours with exegesis at an institution do some
investigating as to who your supervisor would more than likely be.
Even try to have a discussion with them to see if they are supportive
and understanding of your proposal. This is crucial to you being
courageous and exploring freely knowing that if you are at any point
having any doubts youve got an avenue of positive discussion.
