This article is does not specifically name an author, but further research
shows that they are a credible source. Contributors and directors include
University Presidents, including the current President of Northwestern
University in Chicago, CEOs of large corporations such as City group, News
Anchors from syndicated broadcasts such as NBC, and even retired United
States army officer General Colin Powell. Affiliations are listed and the URL
represents the council on Foreign relations. They claim to be a non-biased
group who seek to educate American on foreign relations. Details are
plentiful with statistics and maps. Opinion and ethnocentrism is absent from
the article. The website itself is updated daily with current foreign relations
news from around the globe.

china-has-been-building-in-the-south-china-sea.html?_r=0
This article is from the New York times, authored by Derek Watkins. The
Article was posted to their website on October 27, 2015. The situation was
fairly new at the time, but the website is a brief overview of the current
crisis. It also prevents a time-lapse map showing islands being made for
economic and military use. The resource is highly reputable, being that is a
written by the paper of record of the United States. This article is free of
political biases, talking very little about American government and military
actions. Information is very detailed with many visualizations for the reader
to not only learn about the geopolitical dispute, but interact with maps as
well.

This article from CNN documents the progress of Chinas operations in the
South China Sea, as well as American military and governmental action. CNN
is known for leaning left but still can is a viable news source. I chose this
article to show a different view of the same story from Fox news, a right
leaning network. CNNs objective was to inform people on the USs
involvement in the affair. It contains in person interviews with military and
government officials, who are more than qualified to speak on the topic. The
article is written by Katie Hunt, with contributors Steven Jiang and Euan
McKirdy of Beijing and Hong Kong respective, and was published August 2,
2016. Overall it is a good news source but some of the ethnocentric biases
must be sorted through to get an accurate representation.

This article was written and distributed by the British Broadcasting
Corporation, BBC, on July 7, 2015. The article is written by Carrie Gracie, an
analysis for BBC and the editor of BC China. BBC is known to be very
moderate with little biases. While the article is published by a British site, the
story is still valid to Americas position in the situation. The article
documents an impending court case to be hear the case between the
Philippines and China. This article gets into the diplomatic dispute between 2
countries that both have territory in the South China sea, which offers a
much different perspective than American news sources have published.

This article is also published by CFR, but documents Vietnams concerns over
China in the southern dispute territories. This article seems to be
sympathetic toward the smaller nations and highlights the problems a
Chinese military installation could create. Again, no author is listed but
contributors to the organization are diverse in backgrounds with many highly
qualified individuals. It offers quite a bit of detail but seems to side with the
United States and smaller nations such as Vietnam and, Malaysia, and the
Philippines. There is a lot of information to sort through, and would not rely
too heavily on this article for information but it is valid information.

surrounding-south-china-sea.html
This article is published by Fox News and the Associated Press. It is a weekly
about on the situation that was published on 29 January 2017. The article
certainly leans right, and seems to be representing the problem as a US
crisis as opposed to an affair that impacts the United States in a minimal
manner. The article has interviews from the current Trump administration,
and their bullish ways of dealing with international affairs. This article is valid
and offers a more in-depth view of China- US relations. Because it is a weekly
update, there is plenty of detail on the political side of the issue, but the
rhetoric used should be filtered when reading. Overall, it is informative yet
biased. Students should take caution citing too much of this article as it only
portrays a small part of the problem.
