Social Action Production Proposal
Name of production
There are 181 children in foster care in slough. We feel that this Is something that
doesnt get a lot of recognition and it should. Lots of people can help the community
by becoming a foster carer and help shape a childs life and make it better. My
family and I are foster carers so it will be easier for me to talk about what its like being
a foster carer and we can have my parents talk about how rewarding it is. We can
also talk to my brother who can tell us how it effects his life or if it even effects it at all.
Length of production
Our production will be over 5 minutes because we feel that, any less, would
be hard to bring any important information to the viewers. Also in the first 5
minutes we will just be talking about first fostering agency, not any interviews.
The maximum length of the production will be 15 minutes because its only
going to be short and sweet to capture the attentions of the viewers and not
bore them.
Interviewees in production
The people we are going to be interviewing for are social action are, one of the
social workers for first fostering so they can give us information about the company,
my mum because she is a foster carer working for first fostering so she can talk about
the different ranger of children she has looked after over the years, and also one of
the children that has been in foster care since she was 15 and how first fostering has
helped her.
We will be interviewing the Foundation itself, First Fostering. This way we would be
able to get expert opinions and the right type of information.
We will also be interviewing a girl who has just turned 18 and left her fostering care.
We would be talking to her about her life in fostering and how it has helped her.
Production angle, how and why
The type of production that we are trying to create is to show the more emotional
side of fostering that not a lot of people see. It will also be filled with facts and
information about how fostering has effected these children and how they have
helped them or not. The angle is to try to encourage people to want to foster and to
get those help these children.
A production layout (beginning, middle and end) Opening: At the beginning we will
show all facts and figures about first fostering and talk to one of the people who run
the first fostering agency and ask them about they, personally, got involved with
creating there agency. They will also talk about how many children they have in
foster care and how many of them have gone off to be adopted.
Middle: After that, we will talk to my mum and ask her what its like to be a foster
carer. This can give the viewers an insight to what it would be like to be a foster carer
and will hopefully encourage them to want to get involved. We will then show facts
about how many people become foster carers each year and how to become and
foster carer.
End: We will finish the video by talking to someone who is currently in foster care and
how they are affected by it and how they got into foster care in the first place. Then
we will talk to someone who was in foster care but is now too old to be looked after
by a foster family and is living in a YMCA in slough. This will help bring the emotional
side to fostering.
Our Target Audience for our video would be adults 25+. This is because adults at this
age and up would be able to and capable of adoption, mainly because they would
be more accessible to sufficient funds and old enough to make such a decision. We
also think this is the appropriate audience because younger audiences wouldnt
adopt at any younger age, so we feel if this was our target audience (25+), it would
relate to them better.
Our final video will be uploaded on the First Fosterings website, where, if our target
audience has a look at the website because it is something they have thought
about, they will be able to watch the video and see the benefits of fostering and
how many children and families it helps each year.

Production Schedule
As adoption is a social, emotional and legal process which involves children who will not be
raised by their birth parents, to become full, permanent and legal members of another
family. Ethical issues in this change over time, as children who were adopted become adults
and may choose to find out their genetic and historical identity, and claim their rights to this.
When interviewing the children that Milly and her family have taken in and care of, we are
not allowed to ask them about their background and where they come from, as this could
be a danger for the child if someone who knows them, saw the video, and could cause
complications. However, instead when interviewing them, we could ask them questions such
as how foster care has helped them, etc.
For me and Milly, we may have to think about things like confidentiality, such as if someone
agrees to be interviewed, but wants to remain anonymous, then we will make sure they stay
anonymous. We would not be allowed to film or document anything that we havent
received permission to film or document.
When interviewing children who have been in foster care, if they are under 16 we would
need the childs parents permission and the childs, for having the child in the video.

List of Questions you wish to ask and order of questions (Make sure they link and
follow on from each other. The wording of your questions will be graded)
Question 3: You
get around 300,000 children in each year, how many of
these children do you usually manage to find new homes for?
PRODUCTION TIPS:
Make sure there is no background noise when filming - ask to turn off all machines or film in a
quiet location and if outside try and use a wind cover and microphone.
Use TWO cameras when filming - One following the interviewer and one following you as you
had with your multi camera unit
Get MORE footage than you need - you can always cut items out but you can't add once
you have filmed
Think about how you want the final product to look before you start filming
Add archive footage (clips, newspaper clippings, footage from news stories etc...) but
ALWAYS reference them on screen and make sure you have permission to use them
Once filming is finished make sure the following is complete BEFORE you start to edit your
production
