qs,abs AS hAS (TS T ) (TS T ) AS = 0

qs,abs h(TS T ) (TS T ) = 0

4 4

From this equation we can obtain the value of TS. It is a quartic equation (a fourth order
polynomial), and there are a few methods of solution: (a) there is an analytical solution (look
up Perry), (b) you could do it by trial and error, or (c) you could use Goal Seek in Excel to
solve it. Substitute in numerical values, remembering that for radiation we need Kelvin
temperatures:

800 12(Ts20) 0.85.67108((Ts+273)4 (20+273)4) = 0

The solution is Ts = 65.1C.
