What is a fool?

a person who acts
unwisely or
imprudently a silly
person
- Often referred to as a
jester is somebody
who entertains
people threw
madness and foolish
actions to create
humour
- They are often
people with
deformities and

- The fool or jester was
found in almost every
society within the world
- Jesters go as far back as
Ancient Egypt during the
5th dynasty
- Fools were part of many
ancient Roman
household as slave w/
deformities
- During the 12th-15th
century, fools were
everywhere and were
very popular
- During the 18th, jesters
started to decline in
Europe, however in
Russia they gained a
political role.
What is its purpose? Devan
- The jesters purpose is to provide entertainment in any given
situation

- Some of the situations would be in a event or in court purposes

Famous Jesters - Jeffrey Hudson
- Jeffery Hudson was a famous jester in 15th
century England.
- He was unique due to his dwarfish size
- He was jester for Charles I of England
- He first became a jester at just 8 years old
- Throughout his life, he served the Queen. He was
given an education and would accompany the
Queen on journeys to France.
- After the English Civil War, Hudson got into a
duel and killed a man. He was then exiled by the
King and captured by pirates outside of North
Africa.
Famous Jesters - Roland The Farter
- Roland was a jester in the twelfth century who
performed for King Henry II

- The name Roland the farter was given to him


for his peculiar performance

- Every year at Christmas hed perform a dance


which ended with one jump, one whistle and
one fart simultaneously.

- For doing this he was given his own house with


over 100 acres of land
Famous Jesters - Jesse Bogdonoff
- Born April 1 1955 is the last recorded court jester
- Court jester to Taufaahua tupou IV king of tonga
- Did not do much amusement or good luck
- Ended up losing the 24 million dollars if the tonga trust fund in bad
investments
