Regional Medical Officer (RMO) (Physician)

This position is within the Office of Health Services (OHS) and located in Bangkok,
Thailand.

Functions and Responsibilities:

PCMO Support and Supervision


Provide medical and administrative support to Peace Corps Medical Officers
(PCMOs) at sub-regional posts.

In conjunction with OHS, provide clinical supervision of PCMOs in sub-region

Provide medical consultative services to Peace Corps Volunteers/Trainees


(PCVs/PCTs) and Peace Corps Response Volunteers through the PCMO at sub-
regional posts.

Demonstrate best practices, procedures and quality assurance in RMO individual


clinical practice, and in RMO role modeling for and mentoring of PCMOs.

Participate in the hiring process of PCMOs in sub region.

Assist in the mentorship of PCMOs.

Assist in the formal evaluation, and remediation when indicated, of PCMOs

Provide guidance to sub-regional PCMOs regarding the appraisal of local medical


resources throughout the sub-region.

In consultation with Director, Office of Medical Services, Country Directors


(CDs), and PCMOs, determine schedule for periodic visits to sub-regional
countries. Submit country site assessment reports.

Clinical Care
Assist as needed with the provision of clinical care and health education to PCVs.

Provide consultation and clinical supervision services to PCMOs

Oversee the care of medically- evacuated PCVs.

o Act as the primary liaison between the PCV and regional health care
providers
o Manage logistics for PCVs requiring medical evacuation to and from a
Regional Health Unit RHU). In consultation with the referring PCMO and
OHS, determine or provide accompaniment if indicated.
o Update referring PCMO and OHS on significant changes in status of the
evacuated Volunteer.
o Provide written summary on all medically evacuated PCVs including
clinical findings and response to treatment.

Regional Health Unit Management


Manage the Regional Health Unit (RHU).
o Identify quality health care providers and facilities.
o Develop regional medevac procedures for use by PCMOs and referral
providers.
o Supervise performance of RHU ancillary health unit staff as
well as PCMOs in sub region. Complete RHU staff
performance evaluations as required.
o Collaborate with post, staff, including CD and DMO, to
ensure that RHU is optimally supported and supports
Volunteer needs
Update and advise OHS and Peace Corps staff on appropriate regional public
health issues.
Coordinate with OHS on fiscal matters related to Volunteer health care.
Communicate with sub-regional PCMOs, OHS and the Region regarding relevant
health and medical administrative matters.

OHS Liaison and Representation


Represent OHS in accordance with its policies and procedures with internal and
external contacts.
Attend regional and Head Quarters meetings and conferences as directed by OHS
leadership.

Additional Requirements

The work schedule will be on a full-time basis, with after-hours, weekend, holiday,
and on-call responsibilities. The work schedule will require flexibility and
frequent travel to countries within the sub-region.

Maintain clinical competency and licensure through Peace Corps-sponsored


Continuing Medical Education opportunities and accredited independent study.

Must be able to obtain a US visa.

Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION AND GUIDANCE PROVIDED:

The RMOs scope of practice is limited to PCVs/PCT and Peace Corps Response
Volunteers.

The RMO is under the direct administrative supervision of Director, Office of Medical
Services.
