CARBON-OXYGEN CYCLE
THE CARBON-
The Carbon-Oxygen Cycle is interconnected
OXYGEN CYCLE and involves 4 processes:

what comes in, what comes out Photosynthesis

Respiration
Combustion
Decomposition

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

The process of harvesting light to combine CO2 and

water (H2O) which result to the production of
glucose and oxygen (by-product)
Happens in the chloroplast of the cell
(photoautotroph)

PHOTOSYNTHESIS FORMULA CELLULAR RESPIRATION

Breaking of glucose molecule with the

addition of oxygen to produce energy (ATP)
and CO2
Backward reaction of Photosynthesis
Happens at the mitochondria of the cell
(animal)

COMBUSTION
This is the chemical reaction when oxygen combine
with another compound to form water and
CARBON DIOXIDE.
When combustion occurs, CO2 is released in the
atmosphere.
Natural combustion includes volcanic eruptions.
Most pollution problems occur because cars and
factories release CO2 by their burning of fossil fuels.

RESPIRATION FORMULA
DECOMPOSITION
When an animal or a plant dies, all the carbon,
oxygen, nitrogen, water, calcium, etc. return to the
soil and air during decomposition.
Certain insects, fungi, and bacteria aid in the
decomposition process and are called decomposers.
