Congress 1994

My Dear Friends in Christ:

May I take this opportunity to share with all of you who participate in this year's Religious
Education Congress my prayers and best wishes for a successful Congress.

The theme selected for Congress weekend, LIVE THE PROMISE, speaks of God's
covenanted love --a gift freely given to our human family. This promise of Covenant is
the foundation and source of our hope. God is our God, and we are a people called to
enter into this special relationship by heeding the words of Jesus: "This is the time of
fulfillment. The reign of God is at hand! Reform your lives and believe in the good
news!" (Mk 1:15)

To LIVE THE PROMISE calls us to ongoing conversion and response to God's saving
presence among us. Because of God's unconditional promise of love and faithfulness, we
can live with a spirit of trust even in the midst of the inevitable struggles and ambiguities
of daily life.

I am confident that Congress 1994 will be a wonderful opportunity for all of you to come
together and be enriched by the many workshops, Liturgical celebrations, and community
gatherings. It is in and through our community that we grow in the challenge of Christ's
words and actions.

Please be assured of my support and encouragement as you continue to pass on the good
news of God's promise of love and faithfulness, and as you encourage our young Catholic
generation to hear and follow the voice of Christ.

Asking the Lord's blessings upon you and all your efforts in religious education and
ministry, I am

..

Dear Friends,

Welcome to another grace-filled Religious Education Congress. We have a wonderful

theme to focus our gathering: "Live the Promise." The promise is God's faithfulness,
God's desire to walk among the human family and to keep on renewing the bonds of
love and pledge of new life. God's covenanted love gives us the assurance of a
presence that continues through time and space, and is experienced right in the heart
of our lives, our world today. It is the power that beckons us to walk lightly and
courageously in the face of life's struggles and ambiguities.

Congress 1994, again, offers many outstanding workshops, opportunities for

enrichment, community gatherings and a variety of liturgical experiences.

It is with great joy that I greet you, and hope that the weekend will be a time of
celebration, and spiritual renewal for all of you.

Sincerely,

1.:d~br Lie-

BUILDING AMIDST THE RUINS: LIVING BY THE PROMISE

Rev. Richard Fragomeni
We are living within an age of social, cultural and religious disintegration. Amidst these
ruins, rests the promise ofthe Cross, proffering new life and hope in an age ofdespair. Living
by this promise, catechists, liturgists, educators, and religious leaders are called to be
heralds of a vision of compassion that the world cannot give. Christ Crucified is the vision
and promise. It is the resurrection-covenant to all creation. In the wounds of Christ; we
are urged on this passionate love to be built anew unto the glory of God.

Sinceramente,

Hna. Edith Prendergast, RSC
