Los objetivos
Los contenidos
Sin duda una de las tareas ms importantes que tiene que llevar a cabo el
profesor es precisamente la seleccin de los contenidos que han de formar parte
de una materia o asignatura. Especialmente es importante esta misin en
nuestros das, en los que tanto el ritmo de generacin de nuevos conocimientos
como las posibilidades de intercambio y comunicacin han crecido
exponencialmente. Este hecho genera que haya una inmensa cantidad de
contenidos disponibles para cualquier materia o rea de conocimiento y que sea
especialmente difcil tanto conocer absolutamente todo como incluir todo lo que
se conoce. De esta manera, el profesor, en tanto experto, tiene la tarea de:
Ser capaz de diferenciar entre la paja y el grano, de valorar qu es lo
relevante y lo menos relevante, donde est el conocimiento con garantas y
que cumple unos requisitos de cientificidad y calidad en su produccin.
Ser capaz de dar sentido a esos conocimientos muchas veces dispersos o
disgregados en mltiples lneas de pensamiento o investigacin
relativamente poco relacionadas entre s.
En este apartado pretendemos dar algunos criterios que han servido de
fundamento para confeccionar la propuesta curricular que presentamos para la
materia Adolescencia, desarrollo adulto y envejecimiento. De acuerdo con lo
expuesto anteriormente, estos criterios sern complementados y refinados al
realizar posteriormente una nueva seleccin, la que dar lugar al programa de la
asignatura Adolescencia, madurez y senectud que se imparte en el segundo
curso de Psicologa en la Universitat de Barcelona.

Tras los dos primeros bloques que, aunque fundamentales, podemos en cierto
sentido considerarlos introductorios, en este tercer bloque abordamos uno de los
dominios tradicionales de conocimientos psicolgicos respecto al desarrollo: la
cognicin y el lenguaje (hacemos notar que, aunque hemos optado por una
separacin en el ttulo, el lenguaje no deja de ser hasta cierto punto un
fenmeno cognitivo ms).
Para ello comenzamos en el tema 11 tratando la manera en la que se ha
concebido la cognicin tpica del adolescente desde la teora de Piaget: el
pensamiento operatorio formal. Seguimos en el tema 12 tambin con los
cambios cognitivos en la adolescencia, centrndonos esta vez en la perspectiva
del procesamiento de la informacin. Para acabar con la adolescencia, el tema 13
se dedica al desarrollo cognitivo social y moral en esta etapa.
El tema 14 es el primero que aborda los cambios cognitivos ms all de la
adolescencia. En este tema, se recupera lo comentado en el bloque anterior
sobre los sistemas sensoriales y llevando estos conocimientos de lo puramente
orgnico a la percepcin, al terreno de lo psicolgico. Ms all de los fenmenos
perceptivos y atencionales, en el tema 15 se trata el aspecto que quiz es el
pionero del estudio psicolgico del desarrollo adulto y en envejecimiento: la
inteligencia. En este captulo lo hacemos desde una perspectiva
fundamentalmente psicomtrica y diferencial.
En el tema 16 nos introducimos en el aspecto que quiz est generando en la
actualidad mayor nmero de investigaciones en el rea del desarrollo ms all de
la adolescencia: la memoria y, en general, el tratamiento del cambio desde el
punto del procesamiento de la informacin.
El tema 17 se dedica al estudio del lenguaje ms all de la adolescencia, tanto
desde una ptica de competencia individual (en la lnea del procesamiento de la
informacin, protagonista en el tema anterior) como abortando su dimensin
social y comunicativa.
Los temas 18, 19 y 20 pretenden aportar una visin alternativa del
envejecimiento como un proceso de declive unidireccional. Comenzamos, en el
tema 18, enfatizando el papel que el contexto y la experiencia tienen en el
desarrollo cognitivo ms all de la adolescencia. Aportamos tambin un enfoque
alternativo al procesamiento de la informacin en el estudio la cognicin en la
adultez y vejez, comentando el pensamiento postformal. El captulo 19 aborda el
concepto de sabidura y el desarrollo moral y cognitivo social en la adultez y
vejez, temas tradicionalmente olvidados pero que han cobrado ltimamente una
nueva actualidad. Cerraremos el bloque en esta misma lnea positiva con el tema
20, comentando las perspectivas y desafos que desde un punto de vista
evolutivo presenta la educacin continuada y, en especial, la educacin en las
ltimas dcadas de la vida. En este tema presentamos tambin algunas
posibilidades de intervencin en este mbito.

Este bloque temtico comparte con el anterior el estudio del desarrollo ms all
de la infancia desde una perspectiva centrada en el individuo. En este caso, el
centro sern las dimensiones de tipo afectivo, emotivo y ligadas a las nociones
de personalidad e identidad.
Precisamente la formacin y el logro de la identidad en la adolescencia (sin duda,
uno de los procesos que marca esta etapa de la vida) es el primero de los
ncleos de conocimiento tratados, al que dedicamos el tema 21. El tema 22
contina centrado en la adolescencia, centrado en esta ocasin en el desarrollo
emocional y las situaciones de estrs (y su manejo) en esta etapa evolutiva.
En el tema 23 abordamos el estudio de la personalidad desde el modelo de
rasgos, repasando los estudios ms relevantes a los que ha dado lugar y dando
pie a una primera discusin sobre la estabilidad y el cambio de la personalidad a
lo largo del ciclo vital.
En el tema 24 abordamos la personalidad desde la perspectiva del self,
repasando las teoras y conceptos ms relevantes desde este punto de vista.
Diferenciaremos entre una visin del self como crecimiento a lo largo de la vida y
una visin del self como proceso ejecutivo responsable de la adaptacin al
cambio y el mantenimiento de la autoestima y bienestar personal.
El tema 25 representa la incorporacin de un punto de vista construccionista y
cultural en el estudio del desarrollo de la identidad y el envejecimiento.
Discutiremos el concepto de narratividad y la construccin y reflexin sobre
trayectoria evolutiva, enfatizando tambin su perspectiva aplicada desde el
concepto de reminiscencia.
Por ltimo, cerraremos este bloque temtico con un estudio de las emociones y
la motivacin y su desarrollo en la adultez y vejez, tratados en el tema 26.
Tendrn cabida en este tema conceptos como el apego y su aplicacin ms all
de la infancia o el bienestar subjetivo y los factores que lo determinan a lo largo
de la vida.

En el tema 35 tratamos los cambios vinculados a la jubilacin. Prestaremos
atencin al trabajador mayor y la jubilacin, que se abordar como un proceso
de transicin ms que como un evento. Comentaremos en este tema programas
de intervencin vinculados a esta transicin evolutiva.
Por ltimo, en el tema 36 nos dedicamos a exponer el tema del ocio y las
relaciones fuera de la familia en la vejez, enfatizando el aspecto aplicado en
relacin con el voluntariado, los recursos disponibles para los mayores y el papel
que juegan y los programas de participacin social de los mayores.

Evidentemente, cada uno de los mtodos puede aproximarse a cada uno de los
objetivos, pero la potencialidad de cada uno de ellos respecto a los diferentes
tipos de objetivos es diferente (aunque reconocemos que algunas de las
correspondencias expresadas en esa tabla podan ser discutibles). Este hecho
hace que en numerosas ocasiones no se trate de optar por un nico mtodo, sino
de combinar los mtodos necesarios (muchas veces complementarios) para
acercarse a las diferentes metas que se plantean en la asignatura.
Una vez el profesor escoge el mtodo que cree adecuado en cada momento,
lgicamente puede llevarlo a cabo de varias maneras, con lo que s podramos
hablar de concreciones mejores y peores (o que explotan todas las posibilidades
o no) de cada uno de los mtodos.
Independientemente de los objetivos para los que son ms adecuados, todos los
mtodos (incluso los ms tradicionales, como la leccin magistral) han de estar
centrados en el estudiante ms que en el profesor. Se trata de buscar su
implicacin y actividad en el proceso formativo, para favorecer aprendizajes
significativos, duraderos y generalizables a diferentes contextos.
Para examinar ms en detalle tanto los mtodos como las concreciones en las
que suelen derivar, vamos a exponer cada uno de ellos con un poco ms de
profundidad. Los hemos dividido en tres grandes grupos, atendiendo a su
naturaleza y tipo de objetivos que generalmente cubren: los expositivos, los de
reflexin-discusin y las tutoras personalizadas.
Mtodos expositivos
La leccin magistral
Una buena leccin magistral desde el punto de vista del proceso de enseanza-
aprendizaje, como hemos visto, va ms all de los contenidos orales que
pronuncia el profesor en clase. Este, si acaso, es el ltimo paso de un proceso
mucho ms amplio que al menos comprende tareas como las siguientes:
Tener en cuenta el contexto en el que se va a dar la clase (tiempo,
caractersticas de los estudiantes, recursos con los que se cuenta, etc.)
Definir unos objetivos concretos de la leccin magistral, lo que los
estudiantes han de haber aprendido con ella.
Dar un ttulo a la leccin.
Seleccionar unos contenidos con los que se alcancen los objetivos
propuestos, consultando las fuentes necesarias. Incluimos aqu la tarea de
pensar ejemplos y aplicaciones prcticas (si estas son relevantes) para esos
contenidos.
Estructurar y organizar esos contenidos e ideas de una manera coherente y
que facilite el proceso de aprendizaje (ver punto anterior sobre las lecciones
magistrales estructuradas). Encontrar una forma de vincular las ideas que
funcione desde el punto de vista del aprendizaje del estudiante.
Anticipar posibles dudas o problemas que pueda generar el contenido que se
va a explicar.
Pensar en posibles formas de participacin del alumno durante la leccin y
posibles actividades a realizar por ellos durante o tras la leccin (o, incluso,
se pueden plantear actividades que preparen al estudiante para los
contenidos que sern explicados).
Pensar cmo evaluar el aprendizaje de los estudiantes.
Como vemos, merece la pena plantearse todas estas cuestiones. El olvido de
alguna de estas cuestiones va redundar en una mayor posibilidad de impartir
lecciones magistrales con menor calidad de la deseada.

El diseo de proyectos
Los proyectos a ser desarrollados por los estudiantes pueden variar en funcin de
su grado de estructuracin.
Aquellos proyectos que se presentan con un alto grado de detalle y concrecin
(es decir, que se encuentran en el extremo de lo muy estructurado) tienen la
ventaja de reducir por una parte dar seguridad al estudiante, que encuentra una
gua que seguir, y por otra de facilitar la tarea de evaluacin de los proyectos, al
proporcionar un marco de evaluacin concreto.
Sin embargo, proyectos demasiado estructurados pueden acabar convirtindose
en rutina para el estudiante, coartando sus posibilidades creativas y el carcter
de reto que ha de tener un proyecto para aumentar la motivacin del estudiante
que lo ha de asumir. Los proyectos muy estructurados no fomentan la autonoma
del estudiante, que sigue dependiendo en todo momento de las instrucciones y
gua explcita del profesor.
Los proyectos tambin pueden variar en su ambicin y extensin temporal. As,
los proyectos muy largos son especialmente indicados para profundizar en un
determinado tema y carcter integrador, ya que suelen tener varias fases (por
ejemplo, recogida de fuentes tericas, recogida de datos, anlisis y discusin de
los datos, etc.) coordinadas que requieren habilidades diversas e implican una
importante labor de planificacin y distribucin de tiempos y esfuerzos a lo largo
de la asignatura. En contrapartida, con los proyectos ms cortos el profesor se
asegura que se traten diferentes temas y puede tener indicadores relativamente
independientes de evaluacin.
Los proyectos como metodologa didctica no nicamente suponen un reto para
los estudiantes, sino requieren tambin de un esfuerzo por parte del profesor que
le aparta de su papel tradicional de transmisor de conocimiento. En los
proyectos, la funcin del profesor es:
Acotar el campo del proyecto, determinando los objetivos del proyecto y los
procedimientos para llevarlos a cabo, as como sobre los productos (el
informe, la exposicin, el material, etc.) a los que el proyecto ha de dar
lugar, la temporalizacin del proyecto (das de entrega, hitos intermedios,
etc.) y los criterios en funcin de los que ser evaluado el trabajo del
estudiante. El detalle de esta definicin del proyecto depender, obviamente,
del su grado de estructuracin, al que nos hemos referido anteriormente.
Supervisar el trabajo del estudiante (o de los grupos de estudiantes) durante
el desarrollo del proyecto. Durante este periodo, el profesor ejerce de tutor,
aconsejando a los estudiantes maneras de alcanzar los objetivos del
proyecto, ayudando a solucionar problemas puntuales con los que se puedan
encontrar en el proceso, fomentando la reflexin sobre las ventajas e
inconvenientes de ciertas decisiones que ha de tomar el estudiante, etc. El
papel del profesor es menos directivo que en los mtodos tradicionales,
acercndose a un mentor o facilitador del trabajo del estudiante o grupo de
estudiantes. Esta supervisin del proceso de realizacin del proyecto ser un
aspecto importante a tener en cuenta en la evaluacin de los proyectos.
Un aspecto final a resaltar respecto a esta metodologa es el especial cuidado
que ha de tener el profesor en cumplir sus compromisos ticos con respecto al
trabajo realizado por sus estudiantes. Ha de tener siempre presente que la

La colaboracin en investigaciones
especialmente sensibles, tanto por parte del estudiante (que accede a una
cierta informacin privilegiada que puede ser utilizada por l para fines no
previstos por el profesor) como por parte del profesor (que en ocasiones
puede perder la perspectiva didctica de este tipo de prcticas y utilizarlas
para disponer de personas que le liberan de ciertos trabajos duros sin pedir
nada a cambio).

Preguntas abiertas
Son en buena medida opuestas a las pruebas de respuesta libre. En este tipo de
evaluacin, para evitar la subjetividad en la correccin e interpretacin de las
respuestas de los estudiantes, estas se limitan a un rango previamente conocido
y que comprobar ver con exactitud si el estudiante da la respuesta correcta o no.
Generalmente estas respuestas van a ser muy breves (una palabra, elegir con
una marca entre alternativas, etc.)
Las ventajas de este tipo de pruebas son, por lo tanto, las siguientes:

Se trata de presentar pequeos textos o enunciados a los que les falta una parte
(generalmente una palabra, que corresponde a un concepto clave) que el
estudiante ha de rellenar.
En este tipo de tems es necesario cuidar la redaccin, ya que si esta es ambigua
puede hacer que los estudiantes contesten cosas diferentes a las esperadas por
el profesor, pero igualmente lcitas en el contexto de la pregunta. Ese contexto
ha de ser lo suficientemente claro y especfico para conseguir, de forma ideal,
una nica respuesta posible vlida.

tems de emparejamiento
Este tipo de pruebas pretenden ser un compromiso entre los extremos que
representaran las preguntas abiertas por una parte y las pruebas de respuesta
limitada por otra.
En este tipo de pruebas, se formulan una serie de preguntas concretas que
exigen respuestas cortas (de unas pocas lneas a no ms de dos o tres prrafos)
y tambin concretas.
Por una parte se intenta evitar el reduccionismo y excesiva simplificacin que en
ocasiones suponen las respuestas limitadas, que piden slo el reconocimiento de
una alternativa o la produccin de una nica palabra, por otra se intenta evitar la
complicacin para corregir que suponen las respuestas largas y su focalizacin
slo en uno o dos temas.

Pruebas orales
Las pruebas orales son un mtodo de evaluacin que est claramente en desuso.
Ciertamente, podemos encontrar ciertas ventajas en las pruebas orales, como la
flexibilidad que proporcionan al profesor para profundizar en los conocimientos
del estudiante y aclarar ambigedades en sus respuestas. Algunos tambin las
consideran un excelente mtodo para evaluar la madurez de los estudiantes y
para mejorar, al mismo tiempo que los conocimientos, la capacidad de
expresarlos, habilidad esta que es clave en algunos contextos profesionales con
los que el estudiante se habr de enfrentar en el futuro. Sin embargo, estas
ventajas implican tambin gran nmero de dificultades, que hacen que este tipo
de pruebas sea poco frecuente.
Por una parte, las dificultades prcticas del tiempo que toma evaluar
oralmente a un grupo de estudiantes numeroso.
Por otra, y principalmente, los numerosos sesgos a los que estn sometidos
este tipo de pruebas: dificultad para mantener la objetividad ante el
estudiante (debido a la influencia de factores como, por ejemplo, la
apariencia fsica o la velocidad en la exposicin) y la evaluacin fiable en
funcin de criterios estables.
Por ltimo, tambin cabe destacar el bloqueo que puede suponer este tipo de
pruebas para ciertos estudiantes, bloqueo que puede dificultar su
rendimiento.
Por ello, las pruebas orales estn limitadas en todo a caso a contextos en los que
los estudiantes sean poco numerosos (por ejemplo, cursos de postgrado) o para
materias en las que la defensa pblica y oral de ideas sea un componente
fundamental.

Portfolios
El portfolio se concibe como una recopilacin dinmica del trabajo del estudiante,
en la que ste, adems de los contenidos, ha de proporcionar las razones por las
que cada contenido figura en la recopilacin y qu aporta al conjunto. Por ello el
portfolio tiene como objetivo permitir que el estudiante demuestre al profesor y a
sus compaeros su progreso y su aprendizaje, siendo su mximo valor convertir
al estudiante en el protagonista, como participante activo, de su propio proceso
de aprendizaje y evaluacin.
De esta manera, algunas caractersticas clave de los portfolios son las siguientes:
Un portfolio no es una mera recopilacin, sino una seleccin razonada de
trabajos en referencia a un contenido o dominio de conocimiento.
Los criterios de seleccin y valoracin de los trabajos y contenidos incluidos
en el portfolio deben explicitarse al comienzo del la construccin del portfolio.
El portfolio debera mostrar el crecimiento y el aprendizaje del estudiante,
que adems debera identificar los puntos fuertes y dbiles de su portfolio.
Los puntos dbiles se pueden convertir en metas para la mejora futura.
En el diseo de una evaluacin e instruccin fundamentada en portfolios se
suelen distinguir tres elementos (Barton y Collins, 1997):
El establecimiento de objetivos: es fundamental consensuar unos objetivos,
un propsito para el portfolio. Estos objetivos sern los que guen el posterior
trabajo de seleccin y reflexin sobre los materiales, y los que fundamenten
la evaluacin.
Los criterios de evaluacin: al igual que los objetivos, y en relacin con ellos,
deben tambin especificarse los criterios de lo que se va a considerar un
buen o un mal portfolio. Estos criterios ayudarn a decidir qu materiales
incluir en el portfolio y las estrategias a seguir para cumplir los objetivos.
Los materiales: los materiales a incluir en los portfolios pueden ser de
naturaleza muy diversa. Pueden incluir trabajos o artefactos producidos en el
curso de las actividades acadmicas habituales, documentacin recogida
fuera del contexto de la clase (en los medios de comunicacin, en Internet,
etc.), observaciones de la realidad, entrevistas con personas que pueden
ofrecer informacin relevante, material mulmedia de diverso tipo en relacin
con el tema, etc. Para cada material incluido en el portfolio el estudiante
debe aportar una reflexin sobre su importancia y sobre en qu medida
contribuye a lograr los objetivos de aprendizaje propuestos. Idealmente, la
inclusin de materiales debe seguir un patrn de acercamiento progresivo a
una meta.
As, los portfolios tienen algunas importantes ventajas respecto a otros mtodos
de evaluacin:
Los portfolios no nicamente son mtodos evaluativos, sino que tambin son
instrumentos de instruccin y favorecen el aprendizaje del estudiante. De
esta manera, un portfolio puede integrar elementos de enseanza y
aprendizaje, que con otros mtodos podran estar desvinculados, con la
propia evaluacin, lo que les hace especialmente recomendables para el tipo
de evalucin formativa que hemos comentado en apartados anteriores.
