DESCRIPTION:
Some 2004~2006 Tiburon vehicles with 2.7L engine and automatic transaxle may
exhibit a firm or abrupt 2-3 shift when the automatic transaxle fluid is at normal
operating temperature.
This bulletin provides the procedure to reprogram the Transaxle Control Module (TCM)
software for 2004~06 Tiburon 2.7L vehicles using the Hi-Scan Pro.
NOTE: This reprogramming addresses only the described condition.
VEHICLES AFFECTED:
Model: 2004~2006 Tiburon vehicles with 2.7L gasoline engine and automatic
transaxle.
Affected vehicle production date range: From the beginning of 2004 Tiburon
production through February 28, 2006.
Affected VIN range: From the beginning VIN of 2004 Tiburon through
KMHHN65F46U216032.

CAUTIONS DURING REPROGRAMMING:
1. Perform reprogramming with the ignition key in the ON position.
2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro
during reprogramming.
3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming.
4. Do not turn the ignition key OFF during reprogramming.
5. When reprogramming is completed, turn the ignition key OFF then wait for 20
seconds. Start the engine to confirm proper operation of the vehicle.
6. After reprogramming is completed, the transaxle control module adaptive
values must be reset (erased), depending on model year as shown below
(Engine off).

Model year Adaptive values resetting procedures


2004 Tiburon Disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 seconds.
2005-2006 Tiburon Use Hi-Scan Pro and turn ignition key OFF for 10 seconds.

TCM REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:


NOTE: Verify that the vehicle is one of the affected vehicles by identifying the
vehicle'sproduction date, VIN and TCM ROM ID.
6-1. HI-SCAN PRO INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Remove the current software card from the Hi-Scan Pro and insert the black 32 MB
reprogramming software card into the Hi-Scan Pro top slot.
2. Install the white 10-pin TCM reprogramming connector to the Hi-Scan Pro.
3. Connect power to the Hi-Scan Pro from the cigarette power adapter.
4. Insert the power cable from the
reprogramming adapter into the cigarette
power adapter.
5. Connect the cigarette power adapter into
the vehicle cigarette power socket.

6. Connect the white 10 pin connector to the


reprogramming connector under the crash
pad.

6-2. AUTOMATIC REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE


1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. (Do not start the engine).
2. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON.
3. Select option "74. GK 2->3 SHIFT
FEELIMPROVEMENT" and press
ENTER.

4. Select option "01. GK 2->3 SHIFT


FEEL IMPROVE. [AUTO]" and press
ENTER.

5. Enter "1229" as the password for


automatic reprogramming mode and
press ENTER.

6. The Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication, check the TCM ID, and reprogram
the TCM.
NOTE:
The Hi-Scan Pro detects the current TCM ID, assigns the new TCM ID and
displays them on the Hi-Scan Pro screen.
Check the TCM ID displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro screen to verify that the correct
TCM software is being downloaded. Refer to the "ROM ID INFORMATION
TABLE" on Page 1.
If the Hi-Scan Pro does not download the program, use the "MANUAL
REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE."
CAUTION: Do not interrupt the reprogramming at any time.
7. When "REPROGRAMMING COMPLETED" message is displayed, turn the ignition
key OFF for 20 seconds and then start the engine to confirm proper operation of
the vehicle.
8. After reprogramming is completed, reset the transaxle control module
adaptive learning values.
9. Check for diagnostic trouble codes and erase any trouble codes.
6-3. MANUAL REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. (Do not start the engine).
2. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON.
3. Select option "74. GK 2->3 SHIFT FEEL IMPROVEMENT" and press ENTER.
4. Select option "02. GK 2->3 SHIFT FEEL
IMPROVE. [ERROR]" and press
ENTER.
5. Choose the vehicle type which is correct
for your vehicle by using the "ROM ID
INFORMATION TABLE" and press
ENTER.

6. Enter the correct password which is correct for your vehicle and press ENTER.

7. The Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication, check the TCM ID and reprogram the
TCM.
NOTE:

Check the TCM ID displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro screen to verify that the correct
