About The Author

I grew up with camera always in my hand. I love the whole

creative process from concept to execution to marketing. My
passion for video making led me to TV advertising in LA, where
I workedwith FOX Entertainment on TV shows like 24,
American Idol, and House. It was here that I started to notice
thismassive changethat was going on in the video advertising
world. People's eyes and ears weren't where they used to be,
they were shifting from TV to Online Video.

Armed with creativity, hustle, and a talented team, we helped

growZAGGtvs YouTube Channelto 23 Million channel views
which has improved online sales up to 65%. With the success of
ZAGGsuse of video, Google asked us to beYouTube
Marketing Ambassadors. They gave us the responsibility of
helping other business and organizations use YouTube
effectively. This unique position and opportunity has given me
great insight and experience in how businesses can increase sales and brand awareness using video and YouTube.

I recentlyquit my jobto start my company,Video Power Marketing, which helps people and companies leverage video
and YouTube Advertising to increase their online sales, traffic, conversions and brand.

Why I Wrote This Course

This massive disruption has been silently growing in the video advertising
space for the last decade. This realization hit me hard when I was asked by
Google to be a YouTube Marketing Ambassador. I was flown out to the
Googleplex in Mountain View and was given exclusive information about the
future of YouTube.

The tables of power are quickly changing to where the consumers have
become the creators. We have the power to reach anyone in the world at
anytime. Never before have we had this much power; and its only the
beginning. I even quit my job so I could take advantage of this opportunity.

For the last year Google has been sending me a check every month for the
ads that Ive monetized on my YouTube channels. I havent even touched
some of these YouTube channels for a year. It has become passive income,
the Holy Grail for entrepreneurs.

Naturally, I wanted to share and teach people how they too, can take
advantage of this huge opportunity. We have the ability to Profit Off Our
Passion!

I created this course hoping that others may share in the simple successes
that Ive experienced.

Enjoy.

TV IS DEAD HOW GOOGLE MAKES MONEY
Listen, Ive said it so many times. TV advertising is dying and
Before we get too much into that, I want to talk a little bit about
online video is taking over. Every year, billions of dollars are be-
Google. Their mission statement is to organize the worlds infor-
ing spent on TV advertising, but soon a huge chunk of that
mation and make it universally accessible and useful. Thats
money is going to start being put into online video (because it
no small statement but so far Id say theyve been doing a
works!). Think about it. How often do you watch commercials
pretty good job of it. In 2012, Googles revenue was a modest
on TV anymore? If youre actually watching a TV show on your
$50.18 billion. How does Google even make all that money?
TV and not online, chances are that youre usually fast-
forwarding through them or doing something else during the
break.

Whenever you do a search on Google, all of the results that you

see in the shaded box at the top and on the right side of the
page are ads. Companies pay money to have their sites appear
there. A huge majority of Google searches end up clicking on
the first 1 or 2 results. By paying Google, a business can get
their site placed above the organic results, hopefully increasing
their chances of being clicked on. The organic results are what
Google thinks is most relevant to the terms you search for.

7
Google is like the cool kid at school picking people for their kick-
ball team and everyone else is just trying to get picked first.

WHATS SEO?
How do you get your website to be that coveted first pick in a
Google search? The answer is through search engine optimiza-
tion or SEO. The basic building blocks of SEO are keywords. If
you want to show up first in a search for cool iPhone cases
you want to make sure that you use that exact keyword phrase
in your title, description, meta data, etc. so that Google knows
what your page is all about. That way when someone searches
for it, Google can say this site looks most relevant to that key-
word phrase and put your site at the top of the results.
Were going through a huge shift in the way things work these
days. When I was a kid I remember going to rent movies from a
store, now I just log onto my Netflix account. I remember learn-
ing from my teachers in school by watching them write on a
chalkboard, now kids are learning on iPads and computers.
Just like all of that, advertising is changing forever.

In 2000, Google first released its AdWords platform. The CPC

was cheap because it was brand new and no one was using it.
Today TrueView for YouTube is in that exact same spot where
AdWords was 13 years ago.

8
When you go to watch a YouTube video and you see an ad appear that you can skip after 5 seconds, that is an in-stream TrueView ad.
You can decide to allow these ads to appear on your videos by Monetizing your YouTube channel. If someone watches the ad, the ad-
vertiser pays you and Google. If the ad is skipped or clicked before 30 seconds have passed (or half of the duration of the ad, which-
ever comes first) the advertiser pays nothing.

9
TV isnt engaging, as there is no way for viewers to interact with

TVs precious advertising dollars.

Right now, TrueView is very affordable. You dont have to pay

$50,000 for an ad spot like you would on TV. This means that
anyone can advertise on YouTube, no matter how small their
budget. All you need is access to some video equipment, an
internet connection, and a Google account. YouTube advertis-
ing is so easy and so cheap that even the worlds largest
brands are redirecting their advertising dollars from TV to online

script of about 30 questions around those keywords.

Once I had done all of my research I met up with the tax attor-
ney and used my mass video production technique (See Chap-
ter 3) to work. I gave him the list of questions and told him to an-
swer each one in 2 minutes or less. At the end of the shoot I
had shot about 30 videos in under 2 hours. I uploaded these vid-
eos to my ExpenseTrackerApp channel on YouTube and filled
in the titles, descriptions, and keywords so that they were opti-
mized to be easily found in a relevant search.

After a few weeks of watching the analytic data I saw my views

help business owners save money on their taxes. Our market

PRE-PRODUCTION

3 PARTS OF VIDEO
If you have worked with video before, you probably know that it
can be fairly time-consuming. This section is to show you how

If you follow these steps, it will take out a lot of the frustrations PRE-PRODUCTION
that can come with video, and things will go a lot more smoothly
and quickly than if you didnt follow this advice. Pre-production is what happens before the shooting takes
place. Its where most of the planning and organizing takes

graphic location, blogs they follow, webpages they visit, etc.
The great thing about online marketing is you can actually
choose to target these kind of people instead of just putting an
ad on TV and hoping your demographic is watching.

If youve done your keyword research from Chapter 2, youll al-

ready have a pretty good list of keywords to base your script
around. When I say script I dont mean that you have to have
everything youre going to say written out word for word. A
Next, you want to identify your message. I do this using what I script to me is more of just an outline. For example, with the Ex-

how to do something, tell them about something, or just straight

your script. First is the Intro. This needs to be short (no more
than 3 seconds), and grab the attention of the viewer. This
23
comes right before the main content that you have written out in your script. Then comes a call to action (CTA). A CTA is what you see
towards the end of a YouTube video when they say click here to sign up, or click here to visit our website. People are smart, but
theyre not mind readers. Sometimes they just need to be told what you want them to do. Never end your videos without some sort of
CTA. Finally youll want an outro or a splash page. This is what you see once the video is over and gives you options to watch a differ-
ent video, visit a webpage, subscribe to the channel, etc. This is mostly something thats done in post-production but its never too
early to start thinking about.

HINT: Its never a bad idea to have multiple audio recordings of a
shoot just in case one of them doesnt turn out for some reason.
28
CAMERAS
Obviously youre going to need some sort of camera if youre going to be making videos. There are hundreds of options out there from
entry-level DSLRs to super high-end RED cameras. Of course if youre not shooting huge expensive productions, Id stick with some-
thing a little more affordable. These days its not hard to get a camera that shoots full 1080p HD video. In fact, if you are just making
really basic videos, chances are your smart phone shoots 1080p video. If youre on a tight budget, that might be your best option for
now. Ive even filmed some stuff just using my built in webcam on my computer. Id only recommend that for stuff like tutorials and
screencasts though. Whatever you decide to use, try and use a tripod or something that can hold your camera steady. No one likes
watching videos that make them motion sick.

If your smartphone Id recommend using a Something like this is for The big guns. Used for

29
BE INTERESTING
Finally, when it comes to filming, you need to be interesting. Whether that means you or the person youre filming. Some people get
really shy when the cameras come out but its just something that comes with practice. If youre filming someone else whos having a
hard time around the cameras, tell them to just talk to you and not worry about the cameras. Avoid being monotone and boring. Crack
a joke or two and smile. If you dont look excited to be in the video, no one will be excited to watch it either.

30
Section 4

POST- INTRO

The most important thing with the intro is that its got to grab the

PRODUCTION viewers attention. No one wants to stare at your logo for 10 sec-
onds. Youll lose your audience faster than a grandma with Alz-
heimer's looses her keys. Dont show your logo for more than 3
seconds in the intro.

VIDEO LAYOUT CONTENT

I know this sounds kind of like your teachers in high school

Weve already mentioned the layout youre going to want your teaching you how to write an essay but its almost the same
videos to have but Im going to just touch on that one more time idea. Once youve done your intro and grabbed the attention of
in a little more detail. the audience, you go into the meat of your video. Make sure
things flow well through the whole video. If you can, mix up the
shots by using b-roll, a different camera angle, and overlaying
graphics.

CALL TO ACTION

Your viewers arent always going to know what you want from
them unless you tell them. Say click here, subscribe, etc.
and then give them a button like this one for them to click.

31
EDITING
Youre going to need some sort of software to edit your videos
and put them all together. There are paid tools that you can use

with video I personally would suggest spending the money on a
good editing software.

Paid Editing Tools

I used Final Cut for a long time before switching to Adobe. It
is also a great piece of software (by Apple) but I have heard
that some long-time users dont like Final Cut Pro X

Adobe Premiere is my editing software of choice. Its now part of a

subscription plan that includes all of Adobes Master Suite for a
resonable monthly rate. Screenflow is an inexpensive screencast software. It allows
you to record what is happening on your screen as well as
adding a small video of you from your webcam.

iMovie comes installed on all Apple computers. It works just

fine for basic video editing but its tools are very limited.

YouTube recently released an online video editor. I havent really

used it much but its also very simple and doesnt allow you to do
too much more than just arrange video and audio.

MovieMaker software comes with most computers running a

Windows operating system. Similar to iMovie, it works alright
but only for very basic editing needs.

SPLASH PAGE
What is a splash page? That is what you see when you get to the end of a video on YouTube and they say Click one of these other vid-

to be able to look around and make a decision of what to click on. Its not like your into thats short and sweet. These splash pages can
be up for a solid 10-15 seconds if you want. I create mine in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop but Ill go over a few other tools you can
use as well. Here are a couple examples:

GRAPHICS
In order to make things like Splash Pages, buttons, and other graphics, youre going to need some kind of graphics software. Like I
said I use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for the most part, but there are lots of other options out there you can usepaid or free. If
you subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud then you can have full access to all of their programs for a monthly subscription fee. That
means you get Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and lots of other powerful software to fill pretty much any need you might have.

what optimization is; telling Google what your video or website

by using the keywords you researched in Chapter 2 and plug-

Google is pretty amazing and as we discussed before, their mis-

OFF-PAGE OPTIMIZATION
Off-page optimization is all about audience engagement. Like I
said before, its something that you dont have as much control
over. If you are getting a lot of likes (or dislikes), views, shares,
or comments, thats going to play a part in your rankings.

It doesnt matter if people are liking your videos or disliking

them as long as theyre doing one or the other. I have one video
in particular of a fake iPhone 5 unboxing that has around 5 or 6
times more dislikes than likes. But because Google saw that
people were interested in it, they had it show up higher in their
rankings.
43
ANALYTICS
The last part of all of this is monitoring viewer engagement by
using analytics. I know that a lot of people reading this will be
creative right brainers who love just making videos. While crea-
tive content is very important, it will help you so much if you
buckle down and give your left brain a little stretch by analyzing
your analytic data. Thats probably going to sound super boring
to all you right-brainers. I understand, Ive always been a right-
brain person. But once I learned to use my left-brain as well, it
helped me realize how people were engaging or not engaging

but Im going to say right now that you dont get money based
on views, you get money based on how many people engage
with your videos by clicking on the ads. One of the best ways
you can get people to engage with your content is through your
annotations. If you skipped my annotations tutorial you should
go back and watch it.

44
If you take the time to understand your analytics youre going to know whos watching, how long theyre watching, where are they com-
ing from, where they are going, etc. This will help you see your weak points, your strong points, and where you can improve. One of
the tools in Google Analytics which can help you a lot is the Demographics tab, which tells you all about who is watching. Another tab
that youll want to use a lot is the one labeled Traffic Sources. It tells you how people are finding you and where they are going from
there. You can see if people are finding your video through suggested videos, a YouTube search, a Google search, an embedded
video player on another site, etc.

One of the hints that your videos are opti- G ALLERY 4.1 Analytics Sample

better. You can also see which ads peo-

THANK YOU
Im all about bringing value to people and I measure myself based on their
success. If you dont get any value in this course, then I dont deserve your
money. I want to thank you for trusting me as a resource to helping you
achieve more views, subscribers, influence, exposure or whatever it is that
your heart desires.

I know this stuff works. Ive done it multiple times myself and Ive helped
many other people and companies achieve the same results. Its not enough
to KNOW it. You have to actually DO it. Apply your KNOWLEDGE. ACTION
is the bridge between dreams and success. When we ACT on what we
KNOW, we start to BECOME. We BECOME what it is weve been trying to
DO.

I hope you enjoyed this course and that you got a lot out of it. If you did,
please tell me about your experience. What did you get out of it? What kind of
results have you seen? Would you recommend this course to other people?

If you didnt like this course, please tell me why. You wont hurt my feelings by
telling me that you would have rather pulled off your fingernails with pliers and
plucked your eyes out with a spoon. (Was that too much?) Tell me honestly
what you didnt like. Tell me how I can improve it. We cant improve what we
dont know.

Please email me and let me know what you thought of the course. I read
every single email. MyVideoPower@gmail.com
SPECIAL THANKS
A big thanks to Dan The Man Jenson. Without him, this book would not be
here. Dan spent hours piecing together all the images and copy in a way thats
simple to follow and still be aesthetically pleasing to read. Thank you Dan.
You truly are the man.
